FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parish Family,

Palm Sunday is upon us, and even though we’re not celebrating together in our church, Holy Week still begins today. It is vital that we raise our spirits and welcome Christ in His triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

The Lord’s Passion takes us on a journey with Jesus. First, He is welcomed with signs of victory (palm branch-es), and then He suffers the betrayal of a friend, is ambushed at night, condemned by Pontius Pilate, and buried in a bor-rowed tomb. After His great entry, He is humiliated, beaten, jeered by the crowd, and finally crucified and pierced. It is easy to believe that as Jesus rode into Jerusalem, His human side could not believe what His Divinity knew beyond a doubt.

Today we are living days that, even a month ago, seemed inconceivable. The uncertainty and fear we daily en-dure can be made more manageable by the strength and stability demonstrated by Jesus. He was triumphant, even before His victory, because of His intimate relationship with the Father. He was beaten, but not destroyed. Alone, but not aban-doned. Jesus could seize His victory because He was able to see past the fear and pain of the moment and focus on the needs of others and the presence of God in His suffering.

As we close out what surely has been one of the strangest Lents in history, may we take this opportunity to iden-tify with Jesus and emulate His attributes. Jesus was alone and separated from His loved ones as He prayed for us, offer-ing to the human race Divine assistance with His last breath.

My prayer is for all of us to be comforted by our God, who has experienced our fears, suffered great pain, and still lived a life of selfless love. When we get through this time and the pandemic subsides, how will we remember this moment? As something that shook our faith during a sacred season, or as an opportunity to draw closer to Jesus through our suffering and care for others who were unable to help themselves?

During His Passion, Jesus kept the ultimate victory in sight. During our struggles, may we do the same. God bless you always, and please pray for me.

Love, Fr. Bryan ________________________________________________________________________________________

STEWARDSHIP “I tell you, Peter, be-

fore the cock crows this day, you will deny three times that you know me.” - Luke 22:34

How many times

have you heard some-one make a disparaging comment about Jesus or the Catholic faith? How do you react? Do you remain qui-et to avoid a disturbance, or because you don’t want your friends or family to think negatively about you? Pray for the courage to speak up and enter into a re-spectful dialogue.

2020 LENTEN REGULATIONS

1. The days of both Fast and Abstinence during Lent are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. If possi-ble, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the "paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Je-sus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily His Resurrection. The other Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence. On a day of Fast, only one (1) full meal is permitted, and two (2) smaller meals, which, if added togeth-er, would not exceed the main meal in quantity. Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast. On a day of Abstinence, no meat may be eaten. Those who have reached the age of 14 are obliged by the law of abstinence. 2. The obligation to observe the laws of Fast and Abstinence "substantially,'' or as a whole, is a serious obligation. 3. The Fridays of the year, outside of Lent, are des-ignated as days of penance, but each individual may substitute for the traditional abstinence from meat some other practice of voluntary self-denial as pen-ance. 4. The time for fulfilling the Paschal Precept (Easter Duty)* extends from the First Sunday of Lent, March 1, 2020 to The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, June 7, 2020. *Canon 920, §1. All the faithful, after they have been initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, are bound by the obligation of receiving Communion at least once a year. O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope.We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick.At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus' pain, with steadfast faith. You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need.We are certain that you will provide, so that, as you did at Cana of Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial.Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the Father's will and to do what Jesus tells us:He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and bore our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God.Do not despise our pleas -- we who are put to the test -- and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.
