Our Legacy Commitment Update Halleluiah! And praise to God (and an anonymous donor)! Last fiscal year we made payments totaling $100,000 towards our principal loan balance. At the end of our fiscal year on June 30, 2016, our balance stood at $110,000. Since June 30, we received contributions of $35,000 towards our next payment. Recently, a parishioner asked how much we need-ed to make our next payment and then proceeded to write the church a check! Subsequently, a payment was mailed to the Archdiocese for $50,000 so our loan balance now stands at $60,000! In less than 3 years, we have paid off $425,000! Thank you for your generous donations and for supporting Our legacy Commitment! With a final push we can be mortgage free very soon, so let’s start to plan for a very long overdue mortgage burning party!! Hallelujah!!

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the collecon for the weekend of November 19/20 & 26/27 will be posted in the December 4 bullen.

RCIA Are you someone who was baptized a Catholic but never received the Sacrament of First Communion and/or Confirmation? Are you someone who has a family member or friend who is a Catholic and is interested in finding out more about the Catholic faith? Are you someone who was baptized in a non-Catholic Christian faith and are now interested in converting to Catholicism? Are you someone who was never baptized and would like to be a member of our Catholic Church? If you are an adult (18 years or older) and you an-swered “Yes” to any one of these questions, then the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is for you. The RCIA is a faith journey in which you deepen your relationship with God and make friendships with other candidates and team members through bible study, faith sharing, and learning about the teachings of the Catholic Church. Adults are then fully initiated into the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil. If you are interested in participating in RCIA for this coming year, classes begin Sunday, October 9, from 9:15-10:45pm at the SPC. For more information, please contact Janice Dagney at 610-857-0511 or the rectory-610-857-3510.

November 27, 2016– First Sunday of Advent Reflection by Rev. Leonard N. Peterson One of the disturbing aspects of life in our time is widespread in driver inattention. Because of it, vehicles weighing in the tons suddenly become more dangerous than guns. They become killing machines all because of the people controlling them. We’ve all heard the problems: drivers who really become non-drivers because they were intoxicated, or sleep-deprived, or using their cell phones. You may have seen that news photo of a female driver caught on camera steering her car with her feet so that her hands could be free! Thus, everybody else on the road becomes a potential victim. And a road trip, even around the corner to the drugstore, becomes more hazardous than ever. All this talk of inattentiveness parallels another type. It has the potential for wrecking our eternal future. It’s about paying attention and being prepared for what we hope will be our joy-filled lives in heaven. Last week I spoke about the lack of guarantees in many aspects of human living. There are two famous ones, however. You know them: death and taxes. This brand new liturgical season of Advent that begins today has concern about the one not involving money. The Church presents us today with the reality of Christ’s second coming, rather than leaping headlong into recalling the first coming into human history that we celebrate at Christmas. We will celebrate that for sure at the end of these four short weeks. But for now, some weeks of preparation for the feast. Whether or not we regularly pay attention to the reality of it, this world is coming to an end. We do not know when, and that can be an aid to our forgetfulness. We turn to what we know for sure, and that is our present time, and all the preoccupation that brings. But it is actually healthy to remind ourselves of the transitory nature of things as they are’ lest they become our only objects of attention. The other reason why we should reflect on the Second Coming is the fact that when Christ does return He will do so as our Judge. Now that could be frightening on the face of it. Judges deal in verdicts. And verdicts come from a proven case of Christ does not ask for more. His warnings in Scripture are meant to be no scarier than the car wreck towed to the high school lawn at prom time to warn kids of what can happen when they drink, do drugs or text before getting behind the wheel of a two ton vehicle. This Judge of ours is also the God of mercy. We dare not lean on that so much that we grow inattentive in our living, slowly steering ourselves toward a detour from His ways or over a cliff of rejection of them. All of us need to be jolted to attention occasionally. Advent gives us that early on. And it asks us to be on the watch for inattention and its partner procrastination. That last is one of the devil’s clever temptations. And he will make sure you never think of procrastination as “the assassination of motivation.” First Reading: Isaiah 2:1-5 Isaiah speaks of Yahweh’s “ways” and “paths” as the correct ones to follow. Peace comes from ending wars of conquest and accepting the judgment of Yahweh. Second Reading: Romans 13:11-14 Paul addresses the Christians of Rome with a reminder that they are already living in the end time since Christ has risen, and not to choose the “dark” ways of sin. Gospel: Matthew 24:37-44 In this section, Matthew stresses vigilance, and being alert to observe God’s will in one’s lifestyle. The motiva-tion lies in the fact that no one knows the exact time of the Second Coming of Christ.
