OUR MISSION
Theodora Foundation’s mission is to relievethe suffering of hospitalized children andadolescents, contributing to the humanizationof their stay in the hospital.
In addition, it works to raise awareness insociety about the importance of thehumanization of hospital patients as a basichuman right.
WHERE WE COME FROM?
Theodora Foundation was founded inSwitzerland in 1993. Only 1 year after itbegan, it expanded to 8 othercountries.Actually there are 208 SmileDoctors and they work in 150 differenthospitals.It’s the largest hospital artistorganization in the world.
Theodora Foundation was founded inSpain in 2000. It is the largest hospitalartist organization in the country. TheSmile Doctors work in 21 differenthospitals across the country. There isa team of 30 Smile Doctors in thecountry. It is the only organization in thefield with national sponsorship.

WHO ARE THE SMILE DOCTORS?
The Smile Doctors are profesional artists that work as
clowns, magicians, actors, actresses, and jugglers.
Objectives:
To change the atmosphere of the hospital room,
making the child´s stay more pleasant and demystifying
the situation.
To create spaces of hope and smiles, contributing to
a quicker patient recovery.

PROGRAM ROOM
Can you imagine what it means for a child tobe hospitalized?
Each day the Smile Doctors of Theodora Foundation fill the rooms of
hospitalized children with hope and dreams.
The visits of the ROOM Program are
personalized and individualized, room by
room and child by child.
Through these visits, the Smile Doctors help to
create spaces of hope, thereby lifting tension
from not only the hospitalized children, but also
from their families and the doctors and nurses
caring for them. This allows the Smile Doctors
to make the situation as calm and drama-free
as possible.
The Smile Doctors visit the children admitted in
ROOM weekly in 21 hospitals all over Spain.
Undergoing surgery is a situation that makes anyone nervous that’s why we have
been accompanying the children and their families with that project from 2000.
«HERE» PROGRAM
The Smile Doctors accompany children
and their families throughout the various
stages of a surgical intervention.
The goal is to humanize the process,
reduce the level of stress and tension,
and to ease some of the anxiety that
children experience as a result of being
separated from their families during surgery.
The Smile Doctors carry out Surgical
Support visits weekly in 11 hospitals all
over Spain.
CAPACITY PROGRAM
The objective of that program, is
thanks to our experience accumulated
arround the years, complement the
work of the professionals of that
institutions and contibrute to the
development progress of that children.
Everything thanks to a positive
environment through the laughter,
humor and surprise of the clown.
A child with intellectual disability responds verydifferently to the stimulations, for this the”Señores Sonrisa" in this case, act favoring theirsensory and physical response.
