We decided to imagine that this library is composed of buildings in form of giant books. It’s a strong and visible architectural form.

We made virtual models of the different rooms of our ideal library with Sweet home 3D.

Model of our library

Page 4: Our ideal library

The buildings of the library are just like a desk covered with books in disorder, showing intellectual activity in progress. --> We have chosen to make this model only in recycled material The raw cardboard figuring the concrete boxes.

.

Page 5: Our ideal library

-->The windows of the buildings reserved for the preservation of books are oriented to the North. -->The scale of the model is at 1 / 200. -->The circulation between buildings is essentially underground.

The four big books (A,B,C,D) are intended to particular functions (catering, reception…).

The ten little books are storage places and correspond to the Dewey’s decimal classification.

Page 6: Our ideal library

Other view of our projectThe openings are in tinted and anti-uv glass. On the openings, there are stars like on the european flag . In the Dewey storage structures, the organisation is horizontal and vertical even if when seen from the outside, these structures seem to be leaning .

The ten storage towers aren’t directly open to the sun in order not to damage the books. The openings are directed to the North. They are divided in ten floors, the ten floors are divided in ten rooms and in each room there are ten pieces of furniture with ten shelves and so on.
