Summer 2009

Our heat and cooling source is now the sun (most of the time)

Thanks to Four Corners Solar (formerly Solar Worx), we now are powered by

the sun. You can see how it’s all working at our website where we talk about going solar.

That’s the good news. We know from our conversations with many of you that there are a lot of ups and downs in our “new” economy. How your business or organization handles the stress of these times could lay the groundwork for your future success – on the other hand, it might be a great time to take that long deserved extended vacation…

Regarding Classifying Workers (1099 vs. W2): The state of Colorado recently passed legislation making it VERY EXPENSIVE

to incorrectly classify an employee as an independent contractor. The Department of Labor may impose a fine of up to $5,000 per misclassified employee for the first misclassification with willful disregard, and up to $25,000 for a second or subsequent misclassification.

Disaster Recovery Planning (or how to sleep well at night) In the world of electronic data the need for comprehensive tested backups is

critical. This is actually a very important piece of what we do for you and we have stepped up our investment in this activity. We currently carry out daily offsite backups of all of our payroll data. Eric Malone, our general manager, recently worked with Computer Medics in testing and developing our backup plan. Over the next months we will be allocating additional resources (at an expense of about $600/month) to ensure an even more timely recovery of data, and seamless business continuation. We want to ensure we will be fully operational as soon as possible in the aftermath of a disaster.

But should you screen your high quality job applicant? One positive side effect of this economy is there are many high quality job applicants available. And yet, if your employees work in other peoples’ homes, work with money, drive your company vehicle, work with children, or engage in other activities in which trust is a major component, it is prudent for your organization to run a background check on your new hires. We offer an easy to use verification process at a reasonable price. You can find out more at: http://www.payrolldept.biz/background.html

Save time, save money with Time and Attendance Using a web clock will organize the collection of pay data, reduce overtime, and make your payday life much easier. Those who have made the switch, 62 and counting, have been very pleased. If you would like a demonstration of how this could work for your business, please contact us or see a demo at our website: http://www.payrolldept.biz/attendance.html At the bottom of the page, click on the link for a demonstration.

We appreciate your business and your willingness to continue to place your

trust in us….and thank you for your referrals.

Sincerely, Bryan Dear with Eric Malone, Tanya Campbell, Melinda Shishim, Mary Wagner, Kyla Zufelt, and Scott Southworth.
