THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD - JANUARY 7, 2018
GOD’S PROMISE TO ALL PEOPLE Today Isaiah reminds the people of God that the land shall be restored to their possession, they shall rejoice to see their people return from the bondage of exile, and that they shall be a light to the nations. In other words, through the people of Israel, the Savior shall come to all people who seek God with a sincere heart. This brings joy and the radiance of God’s glory to all the world and to all people everywhere. Through the fidelity of the people of God, and through God’s fidelity to them, all people shall become God’s children and rejoice in the fulfillment of God’s promise to Israel. Copyright © J. S. The Epiphany of the Lord - January 7, 2018
This “new year” is going to bring about a lot of changes! Biggest and most important of all is, of course, the completion of and moving into our new Church building. It is still scheduled for completion in early May of 2018 with a tentative date of Dedication on Monday,
May 14. Our first weekend to be in the church itself is the weekend of May 19/20 — our annual parish feast day: Pentecost! Remember, this could still change should there be a delay in shipments, some kind of labor problems or the Diocese halting construction because of lack of funds. I hope that none of this happens, but we will be monitoring all these possible developments and keeping all informed. Other changes are the moving to South Carolina of John and Katie Breeden. Their last “official” weekend here is January 20/21; on that weekend, Deacon John will preach at all the Masses and both he and Katie will be there after each Mass to say “goodbye” to parishioners and to let all of you say thanks and farewell to them. Because of their leaving, two new positions need to be filled. I’m happy to announce that this is happening. Deacon Rich Green has joined the staff of Holy Spirit as of January 1. Deacon Rich has been serving at Christ the King for many years; he and his wife, Charlene, live only a few blocks away from our parish site. I will write more about Deacon Rich in a future column. Hired as our new Director of Finance is Patti Fitzpatrick who will begin here on January 8. Patti and her family have been members of the parish for several years; Patti has been very involved as a volunteer in our grief ministry, New Beginnings — especially in funeral planning. She was Director of Finance in a parish in Chicago, prior to moving to Las Vegas. Again, I will write more about Patti in a future column. Our Director of Music, Debbie Hasterok, will be moving to the Phoenix area in May or June of this year — to be closer to children and grandchildren. We have been advertising for about two months for someone to take her place — someone who has extensive background in both music and liturgy. We advertised on a national website: www.catholicjobs.com and have had nearly a dozen persons apply. Interviews for these persons begin next week. Finally, with a big new church building soon to be finished, we will be looking for a full-time Director of Maintenance/Facility Manager. We are working on the job description now and will begin advertising for that position soon. So, lots of new things in this New Year!

NEW BEGINNINGS
A Ministry of Hope, Healing and Consolation
New Beginnings is a Bereavement
Ministry designed to provide support to Christian individuals who have experienced traumatic loss in their lives. The grieving process can cause a sense of feeling disconnected, dismayed and can fill the individual with a sense of hopelessness and despair. New Beginnings offers several services that will gently accompany the bereaved and the parish community in their adjustment to the fact of death and to the sorrow this entails.
• HOPE Catholic Funeral Mass Planning and Coordination Our faith reminds us of the sure and certain hope that our loved one who died in Christ will rise with him on the last day. A compassionate and non-judgmental funeral coordinator will guide you in planning a beautiful funeral liturgy for your deceased loved one. You will be assisted in choosing Scripture readings and hymns that express our Christian hope in Christ’s saving death and resurrection.
Contact: Patti Fitzpatrick 702-459-7778
• HEALING Grief Facilitation -“Blessed are they who mourn; they shall be consoled” (Matthew 5:3) This support group offers trained individuals to help the bereaved understand the process of grief. In these classes, individuals examine their feelings during this intense period and look at coping mechanisms to move through the process feeling guided and not alone. The service has structured classes on various topics and also offers sessions for participants to examine their experiences and share with others in a safe environment led by a facilitator. Contact: Susie Cram 702-459-7778
• CONSOLATION Helping the Bereaved -“If one member suffers in the body of Christ which is the Church, all the members suffer with that member” (1 Cor. 12:26) When a member of Christ’s Body dies, the faithful are called to a ministry of consolation to those who have suffered the loss of one whom they love. This is an in-service offered to help individuals who are close to, work with, or know someone who has suffered a loss, but who are not sure how to help the bereaved. The instructor will teach the participants the stages of grief, describe normal grief behavior and share ways to journey with the individual they want to help or support. Contact: Susie Cram 702-459-7778
