GENERAL NEWSLETTER – TERM 3 WEEK 3
From the Principal
Education Week
This week is Education Week, the theme for 2020
Education Week is Learning Together. This week we
celebrate the many achievements of our public schools
and the critical role they play in equipping our students
for the future. Keep an eye on our school Facebook
page which is being updated daily to show how we are
celebrating Education Week here at CVPS.
Semester One Reports
Semester One reports will be sent home on Thursday.
As mentioned previously, due to the learning from
home circumstances last term, reports have been
prepared with a revised approach. This revised
approach focuses on the learning undertaken in English
and Mathematics and will provide information about
your child’s learning across the other Key Learning
Areas, as well as their learning behaviours.
Please take the time to go through your child’s report with them over the coming days to identify their learning goals for Semester 2. It’s important to remember that one of our expectations at CVPS is that our students are responsible learners, this includes identifying where they are at in their learning journey and what they need to do next to improve. If you would like to discuss your child’s report with their class teacher then please either phone to office or contact them via Class Dojo. Phonics Screening Check
Students in Year 1 will take part in a Phonics Screening
Check next week. This is a short assessment that tells
teachers how students are progressing in phonics. The
Phonics Screening Check is carried out by classroom
teachers with each student individually and takes
between 5 -7 minutes. The check complements existing
strategies to identify students’ progress in developing
foundational literacy skills.
Update on excursions and school camps
This is the latest advice regarding excursions and school camps - School camps and excursions remain on hold for Term 3 given the recent increase in community transmission of COVID-19 across NSW. Updated advice on when school excursions and camps can recommence will be communicated to all schools following further discussions with NSW Health later in Term 3. In the meantime, schools can continue planning for excursions and camps to resume from Term 4. Our re-scheduled excursions to Red Hill EEC can go ahead due to the fact that they are a DOE site. Absentees
As mentioned in last weeks newsletter coming to school
every day is extremely important, however, on
occasion, your child may need to be absent from
school. Justified reasons for student absences may
include;
* being sick, or having an infectious disease
* having an unavoidable medical appointment
* exceptional or urgent family circumstances e.g.
attending a funeral
Following an absence from school you must ensure that
within 7 days you provide the school with a verbal or
written explanation for the absence. If no explanation is
provided the absence will be recorded as unjustified.
Absences can quickly and easily be explained via the
Skoolbag app, if you require any assistance with this
please contact the office.
School Photos
Last Friday individual and class photos
were taken of each student who was at
school. If you are yet to place your order
for photos this can still be done by
contacting our photographer and placing
an order online. MSP Photography can
be contacted by calling their office on (02) 6360 2008 or
sending an email to; [email protected]
online orders can be placed up until this Friday 7th
August. Any orders placed after this date will incur a
late fee. The school cannot accept orders, this must all
be done via MSP Photography.
Notes sent home last week: Year 4 Red Hill Excursion note, Year 1 & 2 Red Hill Excursion update, Recorder Group note
P&C AGM
Last Wednesday we finally held our 2020 P&C AGM via
Zoom. Congratulations to Nikki Amphlett and Kierra
Lamb who have both been elected in as President, and
Treasurer respectfully again this year. Also, a big
welcome back to Jenni Buckley who has been elected
in as Secretary. The position of Vice President was not
filled. The next P&C meeting will be held on the 20th
August via Zoom.
Jeans for Genes Day
This year Jeans for Genes day takes place this Friday,
7th August. CVPS will be supporting this worthy cause
again this year which raises money for medical research
to help find cures for childhood genetic diseases. To
support this cause, students are encouraged to wear
jeans to school on Friday. The children must wear either
red sports shirt or green shirt and school jumper. The
only part of the uniform to change is the wearing of
jeans. Those students who choose to wear jeans are
asked to donate a gold coin to the Jeans for Genes
appeal.
This year’s Jeans for Genes Day posters feature a
photo of Charlie. Charlie and his family are local to
Mudgee and we are looking forward to welcoming
Charlie to start Kindergarten with us at CVPS in 2021.
We have recently been in touch with Charlie’s family
who have given us an insight into the importance of this
very worthy cause. A few key messages about the
importance of this charity are shown in the article over
the page.
I have recently had communication from the Children’s Medical Research Institute with the great news that a group of generous donors will match every donation made, dollar for dollar. So together let’s see how much we can raise for this important charity. Michelle Neaverson - Smith Principal

Wear Red Day
Last Thursday our SRC held a
fundraiser "Wear Red" with all
donations going towards Ronald
McDonald House in Orange.
Students and teachers came to
school wearing red and donated a
gold coin, we had a fantastic response to this fundraiser
and are very pleased to say we raised a total of
$617.85 for this wonderful cause.

Environmental Education
In Term 3 CVPS will be fortunate to
have an Environmental Education
officer, Mrs Natalie Bowen, visit the
school to teach the students about
the importance of recycling.
She will be visiting each class across the school
throughout the term. Mrs Bowen provides a variety of
activities including hands on, small group work and
interactive tasks for the students to improve their
knowledge of the recycling process and how important
it is to look after our environment.
This week she has spent time with Year 4 and Stage 3
and the students were very engaged with her lessons
and learnt lots of interesting facts about recycling. It
was great to see and hear
students clearly explain the
benefits of recycling and
the positive impact it has
on the environment.

Environmental Team News
Last week we were very fortunate to receive a
generous donation from Bunnings in Mudgee. They
kindly donated gloves and tongs for our recycling
program. Students in our Eco Team put these to use
last week while participating in our return and earn
recycling program.
Trash Free Tuesday
Last week we had a total of 623 pieces of rubbish.
In Term 2, Week 10 we had 596 pieces of rubbish. Re-
member our school goal is 500. Each week we have to
really work together to reduce the amount of rubbish we
have in our lunchboxes every day.
The following classes improved this week;
KS, 1R, 3R, 3T, 4/5A, 5/6B and 5/6A.
Our ECO Warrior Class of the
Week for each stage were;
Kindergarten- KS on 19
Stage 1- 2D on 26
Stage 2- 3T on 19
Stage 3- 5/6B and 5/6A both on
6.
Did your class reach their achievable rubbish goal this week? If you didn't, what could you do to reach your goal next week?

Jeans for Genes Day - Friday 7th August
An account from Cassie - Charlie’s Mum
Charlie's family are part of Jeans for Genes
because they can see what research has already
done. “Research is really important because
we're so close to a cure” Cassie said “Treatment
for Cystic Fibrosis has come along in leaps and
bounds in such a short time, and we’re nearly
there, and if we can get there in Charlie's lifetime,
then that would be fantastic. It would just mean
the world to us and to anyone that's born with
Cystic Fibrosis that they can have a long and
happy life.’’
One of the big things we're passionate about is
advocating for Charlie and raising awareness of
Cystic Fibrosis as well as
awareness and funds for the
amazing work that
organisations like Children’s
Medical Research Institute
(CMRI) do. We hope that by
sharing our story, it will benefit
families like ours in the future.
CMRI encourage people to
donate or get involved
because you never know if it could happen to you
or to someone you love.
