Our First Newsletter of 2015-2016 Season!!!
Greetings esteemed alumni, colleagues, students and baseball fans! It’s
our pleasure to welcome you to another season of the official Pasco
Baseball Newsletter. Continuing on the previous year’s newsletters, we
are offering this small gesture to increase the connection between the
community and PHS to the Pasco Baseball Program. We will continue to
offer articles from the coaching staff, articles about players in the
program and all the other things that are happening in the program.
We will be offering four issues (Nov/Dec, Jan/Feb, Mar/Apr, and
May/June). There are a lot of great things this year to build the program
so hopefully you can make it out to some games as well as events during
the spring and summer season.
Nov/Dec Issue
Volume 3,
Issue 1
Coach Hockaday enters his 6th year
as varsity baseball coach at Pasco
High. As a graduate of Pasco High
School in 2001, Coach Hockaday
played four years in the baseball
program, as well as, playing
football and being a part of two
state championship teams in 1998
and 2001. When Coach Hockaday
isn’t coaching, he is always staying
active going hunting, fishing,
building stuff, collecting sports
cards and beating Coach Emerson
at everything including golf.
Hockaday is also an English
teacher at Pasco High School
where he has been teaching nine
years. He is currently a 9th
Advanced and World Literature
teacher.
As far as his goals for the 2016
season, Hockaday says, “I want my
guys to become more mentally
tough and not let so many games
get away from us. We will have a
young team with a lot of talent so
mentally we have to execute and
make the routine plays.”

Meet the Players: Dominick Monville Name: Dominick Monville
Year: Senior
Position: Outfield, Pitcher, 1st Base
Parents: Paul and Teresa Monville
Plans after High School:
“My goals after high school are
playing college baseball for a
university or junior college and
getting my degree in Sports
Journalism.”
Goals for this Season:
1. Lower error percentage as a
team.
2. Have over 35 quality at bats
3. Have a batting average over
.330
Coach’s Comment:
“The coaching staff expects great things from Dominick this year. He will
be transitioning from 3rd
baseman to 1st baseman where he originally
played as a freshman. He also had a great summer baseball season in
terms of hitting and pitching which should benefit him. He also has been
working hard in the weight room in the off-season which will certainly pay
off.”

If you are planning on participating in baseball for the upcoming season
(and are not in a winter sport) you are encouraged to come into the
weight room afterschool Monday-Friday 3-5pm.
During the months between November and February, there will
be open gym. There will be hitting and fielding work going on in the
racquetball courts as well as the AC gym. Get in there and get better
before the season starts.
Winter Baseball Training Starts Nov. 16th
Winter Hitting in Inflatable Batting Cages
Winter hitting will begin in a couple of weeks for players that are interested in playing in the spring. Last year, the baseball program purchased a blow up cage which can be placed anywhere for hitting to be conducted inside during the winter months. See Coach Hockaday for a hitting calendar.

Pasco Sun Devils Summer Baseball Team
Pasco Sun Devils summer baseball program is looking forward
to the upcoming 2016 summer season. The program is looking
to build off the success both the Single A and Double A teams
had. The Double A squad (grades 10-11) went 24-13 during the
summer just missing out on the post-season by one game.
While the single A (grades 8-9) made it to the state tournament.
We would like to keep the success going next summer to help
build both Chiawana and Pasco High School Baseball
programs. It is also an extra forty games player’s play in the
summer which is double the school ball season. Baseball
players need to consider playing since this is the way you will
get better for the next summer. If there are any questions
please, contact Coach Hockaday.

The FungoMan Has Come to the PHS Baseball Program
“FungoMan is an automated baseball practice machine that is easy to handle, and is operated
by an inventive programmable software system. FungoMan is not just another pitching
machine It is an instant field practice on wheels! This portable and efficient practice machine
holds 300 baseballs and perfectly places those balls anywhere on a baseball field. This
machine precisely controls speed, spin, position, and elevation of baseballs from 5 to 100
MPH. FungoMan has an automatic rotating feature that produces incredibly accurate and fast
baseball placement. This translates to more quality practice for players, and more quality
instruction time for coaches” –FungoMan Website
Coach Comment:
“This is the best piece of equipment on the market for
becoming better at the sport of baseball. This machine
will no doubt will help our players on the defensive
side of baseball. It will also give our guys an
opportunity to see ground balls in the winter time
inside the gym to give us a head start on the
competition. Also, in the spring we will be able to
focus our practice more and guys can get hundreds of
reps within a half an hour period. It will be a great
asset to the program and our players.

Orange/Grapefruit Fundraiser Going On
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!!!! The Pasco High
Baseball team is once again selling 20lb boxes of
oranges and grapefruit. This is a healthy fundraiser
that helps support the Pasco High Baseball team.
Each of the 20lb boxes are $30 dollars. Currently,
oranges are going for $1.99 or more at local grocery
stores, while grapefruit is not far behind. Would you
like a little bit of both? Great, we can do half and half
boxes as well. Is 20lbs too much for you? Awesome,
we can do half boxes for $15. Depending on the size,
each 20lb box holds 44 to 48 oranges. While a 20lb
box of grapefruit holds 20- 28 grapefruit. You can
order yours today from any baseball player or by
emailing Coach Hockaday at [email protected].
Thank you for the support.
