Dear Parents/Caregivers,

WELCOME BACK TO 2019.

A warm welcome back to the new school year and a special welcome to the new staff and students who join us in 2019. We hope that you feel refreshed and re-energised for a great year ahead. We begin 2019 with a total of 19 classes throughout the whole school, over 60 new enrolments and new students joining us every day. Thank you for your continued support of East Torrens Primary School.

Our focus on Literacy and Numeracy continues and our results show that our students are working hard to improve their learning every day. Acquaintance Night 2019 will be held next Monday night where you have the opportunity to meet your child teacher/s.

If you are a new family to East Torrens, a warm welcome to you. We are a family friendly school with a strong emphasis on the learning and wellbeing of our students. Please feel free to contact me, either through the Front Office, 8337 1411 or by email. ([email protected])

I look forward to meeting you during this first term.

Kind Regards,

Gael Little

Principal

In 2019 our school will be transitioning from hardcopy newsletters to digital form by using the Skoolbag app and on our website. Skoolbag is a digital app which will help us communicate more effectively with our family/student community. We are asking families to install the Skoolbag app in preparation for this.

To install it, just search for the Skoolbag app in the Apple App Store or Google Play and install the Skoolbag app on your device, then tap in the select your school search and type in your school name.

East Torrens is an environmentally friendly school and we will endeavour to put all newsletters on the app in the future rather than hard copies.

Empathy Respect Community Excellence

Welcome back everyone.

It was great to see all the students looking excited including our new students on their first day at school. Everyone has settled in so well.

This term we will be asking the Year 7's to apply for Senior Executives positions and by the end of term all classes will go through their process of nominations for student class representatives.

We have a number of events happening this term which include Harmony Day and National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. More information will be sent out prior to these events. Tuesday the 5th February is Safer Internet Day. This is an annual event (the use of a safer internet) and this year's theme is 'Together for a better internet'.

Attached to this newsletter is some information from the Office of the eSafety Commissioner.

Wheels Wednesday Bike Riding Program

Every Wednesday at lunch time students are invited to take part in the Wheels Wednesday

program, which has been successfully running for the past three years. Many children have learnt

to ride two-wheeled bicycles for the first time since the program’s inception, resulting in a huge

increase in self-confidence and enjoyment by those children.

Students can bring their own bike, scooter, skateboard or

roller-blades/skates on the day and do not need to register prior. For

those who need to borrow equipment we have a range of bicycles,

scooters and skateboards along with helmets.

(Children needing to borrow must sign up on the sheet located outside of

Ms Martha’s office in the Montacute building.)

We have begun the year with seven classes and a total of 84 students in the Intensive English

Language Program. This number is likely to increase during the term.

I am looking forward to meeting you all again during our Acquaintance Evening which will be held on Monday the 11th of February. This evening will provide you with an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher/s and find out what will be taught and how you can support your child’s learning. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me or make an appointment with your child’s class teacher. Wendy Olsson IELPC Leader
