Passive Solar Design
• Slab subfloor - natural or tiled surface. Use cement based adhesive if tiled. Darker Tiles are better
• Insulate the slab from any cement path on the east/ west and north sides, if that area gets summer sun. Otherwise the floor inside the house gets warmer on the perimeter
• Only let in ventilation when and where you want (have a strategy, know the inside and outside temperatures)
• Adding internal brick walls improves thermal performance due to thermal mass

• winter - the floor/slab gets warmer and releases the heat with a delay, the thicker the thermal mass, the longer the delay. • summer - avoid sunshine entering windows, particularly onto any thermal mass like slab floors

What I’d do differently
• Less windows area – Currently excessive windows to East
• Installed less floorboard over slab in Bedrooms – Improve thermal mass affect.
• Include a couple of double hung windows - Better cross flow ventilation
• Have less concrete around house perimeter – Reduce cooling/ heating loads and improve garden size
