Verona Coultart Hello, my name is Verona, and my husband and I have two lovely boys at The Elmgreen School, in Years 10 and 7. I am

a qualified nurse and midwife, and also a midwifery clinical teacher at King’s College London.

I welcome the opportunity to become a parent governor, supporting and challenging the school to

make improvements. Working in a busy NHS has given me transferable skills. I know how to

prioritise and how to work with others in challenging circumstances towards a positive outcome. I

feel that families and the school would be gaining an honest, hardworking individual driven by my

natural desire to see children work to their full potential. I will be the lead First Aider at the Parent

Promoters’ Annual Fun Run on 5 October. If you are there, please come and say hello to me.

David Timms

I would like the opportunity to support Elmgreen as a comprehensive and community school. Helping it to

improve its exam results and support excellence in inclusivity, equal opportunities and celebrating the

school’s diversity.

I am experienced manager working for a large, established environmental campaigning

organisation. I regularly work with lawyers and have responsibility for regulatory compliance

with electoral law - I could contribute an attention to detail and experience of operating with due

diligence and legal oversight. As an environmental campaigner I also have experience at working

with decision makers, this would enable me to hold the school leadership team to account.

I have 2 children at the school, have volunteered at careers days, encouraging students to consider

a future in the charity sector, and have had an Elmgreen student undertake work experience with

me.

Gudrun Kunst

I have been a parent since my son started in Year 7, over three years ago. Ever since he started I have

been a big fan of The Elmgreen School and truly believe that the school is excellent, with fantastic

teachers and brilliant leadership. I have had the opportunity to be an active director of the PPF when

my son was in Year 8. The activities and responsibilities of the PPF are enormous with great impact

for The Elmgreen School.

I have worked as a Consultant Anaesthetist at King’s College Hospital for over 15 years. I will

continue to support the wonderful and highly professional ethos of The Elmgreen School and do

everything necessary so that it will continue to go from strength to strength despite ongoing threats.

Parent Governor—Update

We are delighted by the response to the call for nominations to fill the three vacant parent governor vacancies. We have

received three nominations and therefore an election will not take place. We are therefore pleased to announce that

Verona Coultart, Gudrun Kunst and David Timms are elected to The Elmgreen School Local Governing Body.

A short statement about each Governor is below:

Dance News by Tilly Bromige, Year 13

O n Wednesday we were lucky enough to be joined by Melanie Simpson, a professional dancer and choreographer

who led us through an amazing workshop exploring jazz, tap and contemporary dance techniques. We also learnt

repertoire from Alvin Aileys ‘Revelations’, Gene Kelley’s ‘Singin in the Rain’ and Bob Fosse’s ‘Chicago’. It was an

amazing day and we took so much away from it, most importantly, a heightened sense of technical and performance

skills.

World Mental Health Day

N ext Thursday 10 October is World Mental Health Day. The Elmgreen School will be promoting our own mental

and emotional wellbeing next week with a number of activities to start discussions around mental health and

seeing mental health needs as the same as any other health need.

Students and staff have been asked to show their

support of WMHD by wearing an item of clothing that is

yellow. A donation of £1 to the charity Young Minds will

be encouraged. This is a charity that promotes positive

mental health and wellbeing for children and young

people across the UK. We will be supporting their

campaign #HelloYellow to raise awareness and provide

resources for our young people to access when they feel

they are unable to manage their own mental health

alone. We will also be having a bake sale on 10 October,

so any donations from students will be greatly

appreciated.

Students and staff have already participated with our #HelloYellow banners, showing how they already promote their

own wellbeing and are on display. Staff are encouraged to decorate their computers or classroom doors Yellow in

support. The library have a display of books that are available to take out around the theme of mental health and will

have a positive music playlist to take away as well. On Friday at lunch hour, the movie Inside Out will be shown in the

library.

We look forward to the exciting week ahead. Together we can shift the stigma around mental health and openly discuss

to ensure we are all happy, supported and safe.

‘Manon’ by the Royal Ballet written by Daisy Hogan, Year 9

O n Wednesday we went to see Manon at the Royal Opera House. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity that

we were all so lucky to have! This classical ballet tells us the romantic tragedy of Manon and Des Grieux and

the challenges they faced. In addition to the artistry of the dancers, the set was exquisite, with elaborate displays

and beautiful costumes; its was something that we’d never seen before.
