Joash said to the priests, “Collect all the money that is brought as sacred offerings to the temple of the Lord—the money collected in the census, the money received from personal vows and the money brought voluntarily to the temple. Let every priest receive the money from one of the treasurers, then use it to repair whatever damage is found in the temple.”

But by the twenty-third year of King Joash the priests still had not re-paired the temple. Therefore King Joash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests and asked them, “Why aren’t you repairing the damage done to the temple? Take no more money from your treasurers, but hand it over for repairing the temple.” The priests agreed that they would not collect any more money from the people and that they would not repair the temple themselves.

Jehoiada the priest took a chest and bored a hole in its lid. He placed it beside the altar, on the right side as one enters the temple of the Lord. The priests who guarded the entrance put into the chest all the money that

was brought to the temple of the Lord. Whenever they saw that there was a large amount of money in the chest, the royal secretary and the high priest came, counted the money that had been brought into the temple of the Lord and put it into bags. When the amount had been determined, they gave the money to the men appointed to supervise the work on the temple. With it they paid those who worked on the temple of the Lord—the carpen-ters and builders, the masons and stonecutters. They purchased timber and blocks of dressed stone for the repair of the temple of the Lord, and met all the other expenses of restoring the temple.

The money brought into the temple was not spent for making silver basins, wick trimmers, sprinkling bowls, trumpets or any other articles of gold or sil-ver for the temple of the Lord; it was paid to the workers, who used it to repair the temple. They did not require an accounting from those to whom they gave the money to pay the workers, because they acted with complete honesty. The money from the guilt offerings and sin offerings was not brought into the temple of the Lord; it belonged to the priests.

Life is a combination of the choices we make and the circumstances we inherit. Yet beyond this is the God who controls and orchestrates all things. His will and our lives converge to create moments that both define us and forge some good for humanity. In The Lord of the Rings, Frodo was assigned a task that would shape generations to come. It was “appointed” to him, by an “Appointer.” From a Christian perspective, we see “the Appointer” as the Lord Jesus Himself who assigns, commissions, delegates and dictates the courses of our lives and His people. For us at Valley Christian, we believe “Our Divine Assignment” entrusted to us is the building of God’s house for the reaching of His city. For thirty years, this task has been on the table and for the first time, the end is in sight. Like Frodo, there have been obstacles and challenges, moments of relapse and doubt, situations that have caused us to wonder if this was even possible. But today we stand confident that the end is near. Our task is almost complete. Our goal within sight. Our job just about finished. Soon we will be worshipping together in God’s new house. Our youth will have their own space. Our city will feel the impact of people equipped by God’s Spirit to live their callings.

“This task was appointed to you, Valley Christian…let’s finish it!”

The Time is now “This task was appointed to you, Frodo of the Shire.”

What is the status of this project?Since 2006, the people of Valley Christian Center have generously given $4.2 million for the construction of our new Worship & Performing Arts Center. These funds have been used as follows:

Phase 1 | $2.4 MillionIncludes design, permitting, preparation of the grounds, installation of the utilities and pouring of the foundation.

Phase 2 | $1.8 MillionIncludes construction of the building shell, comprised of steel, walls, windows, and stucco.

Campaign Objective: Complete God’s House! As a church, we are now at a unique and exciting place in the journey of building a new house of worship for our God. The completed exterior shell provides us with an opportunity to let our imaginations visualize the finished project. The views of the valley below provide a spectacular visual of the cities we are called to reach. There will be a large sweeping patio full of people on a Sunday morning. Our new Worship & Performing Arts Center will accommodate a spacious and inspiring atmostphere for worship. Soon, graduates from our High School will be walking across the new stage to receive their diplomas. Seven days a week, youth from both our Church and Schools will be enjoying space of their own in the form of a Youth Center. Decades of anticipating this day are now months within our reach!

Yesterday’s visionis now today’s reality

In order to make this vision tangible, we have one last challenge before us. One final hurdle to cross. One more campaign that will allow us to worship in God’s house together. Our assignment for this campaign is to believe God for the resources required to complete the Worship & Performing Arts Center.

Phase 3 | Goal: $2.3 million*

An additional $0.5 Million to complete the Worship & Performing Arts Center sound and light system will come from a Valley Christian Schools fund-raising campaign.

An additional $0.5 Million to complete the Worship & Performing Arts Center furnishings will come through a Valley Christian Center chair campaign at a later date.

O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You, I will praise Your name,

for You have done wonderful things, even purposes planned of old[and fulfilled] in faithfulness and truth. –Isaiah 25:1
