Hi All, It is good to be back. I have been out of town for the past 2 months to be with a family member who is dealing with a health issue. The Assistant Principals and office staff stepped up and did a great job taking on all of the added responsi-bilities associated with my being out of the building. I am thankful for that. We have a bond election coming up on March 14. Timberline would ben-efit greatly if the bond were to pass. We could expect to see our HVAC updated. We would also see new
state of the art Science labs, new Art rooms, and additional classrooms. It would be great to have the addition-al space with our increasing num-bers! We have our incoming Sophomore Orientation Monday, January 30 at 6:00 pm. This is an event for those students at Les Bois and East Jr Highs who will be joining us in the fall. If you have an incoming sophomore, we look forward to seeing you. Our custodians have done a prenom-inal job removing snow and dealing with this harsh winter. With that be-ing said, it is still important to be careful when visiting Timberline. We are a large campus and we still have some slick spots here and there. Our parking lots still have ice in areas and are especially slick.

Timberline High School is a latex free building, which means that at at no time should balloons be in the building. Students and faculty members with latex allergies are either directly exposed or ex-posed through airborne latex par-ticles when balloons have entered the building. Do not bring any rubber or latex balloons into the building before, during, or after school. It takes several days for the airborne latex particles to clear the air system.

From Frau Campbell: Our second year German students just completed the Na-tional German Exam this week. If they score within the 90th percentile across the nation, they will be eligible for a Study Award Trip to Germany for a few weeks to spend with a family and attend a German High School (Gymnasium). Wish them luck and congratulations for completing such a rigorous exam! Awards will be an-nounced later in the Spring. German 3 is eligible for col-lege credit (4 credits, to be ex-act). German 2 students should highly consider continuing their language studies to earn some early (greatly discounted) cred-its on their college transcript! Take advantage of this amaz-ing opportunity and save time/money on campus as a first year college student!

The library has some exciting things planned for February. The Gaming Club is meeting three times this month to make up for lost time during the snowpocalypse. ☺
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, students may come into the library all month at break and lunch to make a valentine card, a button, or a bookmark. In addition, we’ll have Blind Book Dating where stu-dents choose a plainly wrapped book based solely on the short advertising blurb on the covering. If
they like the book they get to keep it. If not, they can return it for another “date.” With Senior Projects in full swing, be sure to use the library’s database collection for valid, reliable academic research (no alternative facts on these resources). Databases can easily be accessed at
home through the school/library website. As soon as a student logons on, there is a link for the pass-words for the databases. Resources from the Gale databases can even be saved to a student’s
school Google Drive for access anywhere, any time. New books are coming in every month. Check out the hottest new Young Adult selections. Remem-
ber Overdrive is a great way to listen to or read a book on any device. Happy Reading, Writing, Creating, and Sharing.

The District is able to raise $172.5 million WITHOUT increasing the current property tax rate for prop-erty owners due to:
Sound financial management and long-term planning
Rising property values in Boise
The expiration of the 2012 levy and 1996 bond
The restructuring of other long-term debt
Overcrowding with student populations so large schools can’t function properly
Using portable classrooms to address overcrowding and safety
School parking lots overflowing into busy streets at critical times, creating safety issues
Older school buildings that are simply out-of-date and some that are too costly to repair
Aging electrical systems that cannot support modern technology
Structural issues that could result in safety concerns
Classrooms and schools that are physically unable to meet modern educational standards
The bond addresses overcrowding, outdated and aging facilities, and gives students access to mod-ern classrooms and schools that reflect best practices in education and technology - ensuring students graduate college and career ready.
If approved, the $172.5 million bond will allow the District to invest in every school, creating a positive legacy for our children and grandchildren, all without raising the tax rate.—22 major capital projects
Expansion of Timberline High School — A NEW SCIENCE AND ART WING!!!

INCLEMENT WEATHER NOTIFICATION Education is important and every missed day of school represents lost learning opportunities. However, the Boise School District’s primary concern is for the safety of all students, including students riding buses and walking or biking to school. If students cannot safely travel to school or if schools are not able to operate safely because of city-wide dangerous weather conditions, school may be cancelled. We will not cancel school on days with normal wintery conditions. Light snowfall, cold mornings or areas of ice are not sufficiently dangerous to force the closure of schools. With proper precau-tions including appropriate clothing, road deicing, and careful driving, students can travel to and from school safely. The Boise School District covers over 450 square miles of Ada County. We recognize that con-ditions vary throughout the District, even from street to street, in some cases. Conditions may be extremely dangerous in one area, while perfectly safe everywhere else. If parents believe it is too dangerous for their children to travel to school they have the option to keep their children home. If school is cancelled, it will be cancelled for the entire District The most frequent dangerous weather conditions facing Boise schools are: SNOW: Snow levels within the City of Boise are typically light or moderate. However, there is always the potential for a heavy snowfall to make traveling by vehicle or on foot danger-ous. Historically, most snowfall only results in slow traffic and minor accidents throughout the city. Normal snowfalls would not result in school closures. COLD: Frigid temperatures are more serious than snow when making school closure de-cisions. On bitterly cold days our concern is for students walking to school. Extremely cold weather also impairs our ability to get buses running, which causes delays in pickup routes, de-lays which are much more dangerous to riders because of the low temperatures. ICE: Ice is our most dangerous winter weather condition. Freezing rain and/or refreezing of melted snow make our roads, streets and sidewalks extremely treacherous for pedestrians, and vehicles. Icy conditions may force us to close, even if it appears that no other dangerous conditions exist. How is the decision made to close or not to close school? Representatives from transportation agencies, the weather bureau, the highway district, city and county law enforce-ment agencies, and school administrators, including the Superintendent, check the roads and monitor information throughout the night and early morning hours. We confer by telephone early in the morning to reach a decision.
If school will be closed, we will communicate to local radio and television stations to spread the word. We will also email parents, send a text message, and post closure information at www.boiseschools.org and on our Twitter account @BSDEducation. To sign--up for the District’s emergency text messaging service text SUBSCRIBE to the number 68453. You can also view a short video further explaining our Inclement Weather Procedures by going to www.boiseschools.org and then clicking on the Emergencies tab found under Parents & Patrons > Parent Information.
