Our project

The project will last two years and will involve schools from different countries in the European Union.

The aim of the project will be to develop a special relationship with pupils in our partner schools as well as developing an understanding of traditional sports and foods in each of the participating countries.

What is our project all about?

The project will focus on healthy eating and sports. The first year of the project will involve:-

Activity oneChildren in Year Four will create a presentation about our traditional national sports and

write a brief description of the rules of the game.

Activity two Children in Year Three will create a profile of local sports teams and sports people and

write an article or report with a coach, a player or a short review of a match.

Activity threeChildren in Year Six will research their favourite sporting heroes and produce a biography.

This information will be displayed through posters and powerpoints. Each country will create a 'sporting hall of fame' which can be shared between partners.

Activity four Children in Year Five will create a booklet or powerpoint presentation of a ‘fair play code’

which will include a guideline of expected fan and supporter behaviour.

How will we share our activities?

All schools involved the project will complete each of the activities.

They will be distributed during project meetings which will take place in different countries.

The activities will then be shared with the children in each of the schools by their class teacher.

Trip to France

Mrs Pacey and myself recently travelled to Saint Jean en Royans in the South of France to meet all the other partners involved in the project.

Page 8: Our Comenius Project Healthy Eating and Active Living

During our visit to France all the partners shared a Powerpoint presentation about their school providing information about class sizes, the

school day and what the pupils have for their school lunch. You will have the opportunity to

watch these Powerpoints after half term.

We visited Dominique’s primary school in France.

The children welcomed us by singing a traditional French song and then

took us for a long walk around Saint Jean en Royans and the beautiful

surrounding countryside.

The children are aged between 3 and 11 years old. The attend school four days a week because in France they do not have

school on a Wednesday. The school day starts at 8.30 but some

children attend a before school club which starts at 7am. School finishes at 4.45pm. A

lot later than ours!

The before school club

The younger children work in small groups with the teacher and they all have a short

sleep in the afternoon.

In the class the older children all sit in rows and work from a

text book. In the classrooms the teachers

work from both interactive whiteboards and black boards.

The children don’t need to wear a school uniform.
