•  Pray for a lady who is in an abusive relationship.•  Pray for two people who are battling with addictions.

“Christ has no body now on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours, yours are the eyes through which Christ’s compassion is to look out to the earth, yours are the feet by which He is to go about doing good and yours are the hands by which He is to bless us now.”

St. Teresa of Avila

Installed, Committed and Renewed Fourteen years has passed since I had experienced the ritual of being installed as a new pastor in the parish assignment to which I had been selected. I had forgotten how “powerful” the words are of the ritual and Bishop Kagan has adapted it a bit to his own requirements that he sees fit and essential to the ritual, the parish and the priest. Making a profession of faith with the parish fami-lies reminded me that together we will be not only professing our faith but living it day by day and with each event that will have an impact on our spiritual and daily life. Along with the joys and the sorrows we will face together, our relationship with Christ will guide, strengthen, and support us along the way. We will strive to be the faithful stewards of the legacy we will forge for one another in each of our parish communities. Renewing my priestly commitment to serve the Catholic Church was a reminder of a commitment made over twenty-eight years ago when responding to the call of Christ to be a parish priest, did more than just send me, “into the trenches.” It sent me into the hearts and the lives of many people in different places and into so many circumstances. And now, thanks to the recom-mendation of the Personnel Board of the Diocese of Bismarck, and the appointment of Bishop Kagan, I have been sent (and now installed) as the pastor of the Churches of St. Anthony, St. Kather-ine, and St. Paul. My commitment has “evolved” into new places and new lives to share. Becoming a part of these parish families, with their challenges and celebrations will bring our stewardship to life in each person, young and not so young alike and I expect will blossom in time. I hope you will share with me an enthusiasm of what can be when we live the stewardship way of life. With the beginning of this new assignment comes a renewal of one’s priesthood, personal life and goals. I am looking forward to this opportunity, I believe, our Lord has placed before us and I am eager to discover what a blessing our faith will evolve into as we continue to celebrate our Catholic Faith and tradition together. For the installation ceremony and ritual is not only about a priest being installed as pastor, it is a new chapter and a time of renewal for the entire parish communities who are so much a part of the life of the pastor and each family in the parish. “Installed, committed, and renewed” – let our journey of faith continue, “Thanks be to God!” Fr. Dave Zimmer

Catholic Home Missions AppealThe Catholic Home Missions Appeal will take place next week. One way that this appeal works to support home mis-sion dioceses in the United States is by supporting seminar-ian formation in poor dioceses. The blessing of seminarians places a financial burden on these dioceses, because edu-cating each seminarian costs $35-40K per year. Your sup-port is needed for these young men so that they might go back and serve their parishes. Please strengthen the Church at home by making a generous gift to next week’s appeal.

Fr. Robert Shea

Fr. Robert Shea grew up on a family farm north of Hazelton, the fifth of eight children, and was ordained a priest of Jesus Christ on June 13, 2013. He currently serves as Parochial Vicar at St. Mary's parish, as well as part-time chaplain at the University of Mary and as the diocesan ethicist for health care.

St. Mary’s Parish Family

MERCIFUL LIKE THE FATHER

Our beloved Holy Father, Pope Francis, has declared 2016 an extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy. He is asking each of us to explore how we can become more “Merciful like the Father” (Luke 6:36). What does this mean

for us as Catholics and as members of St. Mary’s Parish Family?! Join us for a time of reflection and focus on our growth in mercy.

This promises to be a rich experience and an opportunity to have Fr. Robert teach us and lead us in prayer, reflection, and sharing on how God touches us with mercy and challenges us to do the

same with those we encounter each day.

Live Mercy Day by Day

Stewardship Thought In the Gospel today, Jesus warns us not to give in hopes of repayment, but to give open-handedly to the poor and needy. That sort of giving mirrors the boun-tiful giving of God, and Jesus assures us it is blessed indeed!• In a life committed to stewardship we are called to “possess lightly.” Jesus taught about the damages of clutching to material possessions, and pointed to the real treasures available to us in life.• Religious education of young people is vital to the strength of the church for tomorrow. Make a provision in your Will for religious education at your parish.

Sunday Readings and Backgrounds22nd WEEK In ORdInARY TIMEWeek of August 28, 2016

Reading I : Sirach 3:17-18, 20, 28-29Conduct your affairs with humility.• Today’s first reading gives us the wisdom of Ben

Sira, a second-century Jerusalem sage.• Because of the upper-class situation of the sage and

his students, today’s lesson on humility is dramatic.• The final verses introduce a favorite subject of Ben

Sira, the giving of alms.

Reading II : Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24aYou have drawn near to the city of the living God.• In today’s reading from Hebrews the image of the

Israelites at Mount Sinai is colored with details from the book of Exodus and other Old Testament passages.

• The gloomy and fearful aspects of the old covenant experience are emphasized in contrast to the picture of Mount Zion.

• Christians do not have to live in fear of imitating the failures of certain figures in the history of salvation, for they have the advantage of the person of Jesus, who sealed the new covenant in his own blood.

Gospel : Luke 14:1, 7-14Whoever exalts self shall be humbled and whoever humbles self will be exalted.• In today’s Gospel, Luke presents a scene with Jesus

in the home of a Pharisee.• Jesus addresses the guests in the house with a par-

able that warns against self-exaltation. This lesson comes soon after the disciples were reprimanded by Jesus for vying for position.

• Jesus’ words to the host point out that the kingdom is for everyone, and our hospitality is to embrace all, especially those who are overlooked.

Vocation View — Humility is needed for those who choose to serve. Are you able to recognize your gifts and offer them in humble service?

(Luke 14:1, 7-14)
