Fatima Pardon Prayer My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love Thee! I ask pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love Thee.
Be Prepared to Stop! On a recent road trip, I anticipated an easy drive to the meeting I had in Ft. Pierre, South Dakota. It was a beauti-ful day and only a little wind to offer any resistance to the destination I was going. I got as far as Herreid and the sign to my right on the road alerted me to a delay in my travel. As I read, “Be Prepared to Stop” I wondered for how long. Just south of town, a construction worker approached my halted car and informed me that the lead car to guide us
through a construction zone would ar-rive in about twenty minutes. I would be stopped for twenty minutes sitting on the highway! I thanked the worker for letting me know and shut the engine off and opened the windows for cross ven-tilation and that is when it hit me. This was kind of peaceful. The breeze rolled
through the car and the quiet was… well, it was really nice. I looked down and on the seat next to me I saw my prayer book and thought, “why not.” I now had about twenty min-utes of “quality time” to spend with God. It was good so I didn’t really mind it too much when it happened four more times before I got to my destination. “Be Prepared to Stop” has spiritual benefits yet to be dis-covered. Perhaps that is what Jesus meant when he said: “Come to me all of you who are burdened and I will give you rest.” In other words, “Be Prepared to Stop” and take a rest from the cares and concerns and the challenges of life. Unless we stop what we are doing, how can we get a different perspective on all that we have to do in our daily busy lives. Jesus is inviting us to “stop” and spend some time with him. And if we don’t take the time ourselves, sometimes he finds a way for us to “prepare to stop” on his terms. Like putting up a bright orange sign on the side of the road to “Be Prepared to Stop.” People have a hard time to “stop” for awhile and spend time with our Lord. Until we realize that time with our Lord isn’t just something we are “squeezing in,” rather it is a de-cision to be quiet and prayerful, communicating with our Lord, we won’t recognize the blessing it really is. It may only be twenty minutes stopped on a highway or anywhere else but it is a gift in which time well spent becomes a re-ality. It is more than “just really nice.” So the next time you see a sign alert-ing you to “pre-pare to stop” know that no matter how long it is, it may just be the best part of your day.

Ronald McDonald Book Drive Please consider donating to the Ronald McDonald House Book Drive during the month of July. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Ronald McDonald House. The charity has served over 4,600 families of seriously ill pedi-atric patients from birth to age 22 and high-risk moms, as well as adoptive parents. STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION Today’s readings re-mind us of the fact that it is God who guides us, and it is God who influences our deci-sions through the Holy Spirit. Today’s Gos-pel is again a series of parables shared by our Lord Jesus to teach us and to explain Holy Scripture. Jesus tells the Parable of the Weeds and the Wheat, which is relatively clear to us in terms of the facts. However, there is an important point within it that we must acknowledge. When the decision is made to allow the weeds to grow with the wheat, it is clear the separation will occur later, not at that moment. When the decision is made as to what will be harvested and kept and what will be destroyed, that is a decision made by God. It is somewhat a reflection of another point made in

From New York City on a cold day in December some years ago: A little boy about 10 years old was standing before a shoe store on the roadway, barefooted, peering through the window and shivering with cold. A lady approached the young boy and said, “My, but you’re in such deep thought staring in that window!” “I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes,” was the boy’s reply. The lady took him by the hand, went into the store and asked the clerk to get half a dozen pairs of socks for the boy. She then asked if he could give her a basin of water and a towel. He quickly brought them to her. She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and, removing her gloves, knelt down, washed his lit-tle feet and dried them with a towel. By this time, the clerk had returned with the socks. Placing a pair upon the boy’s feet, she purchased him a pair of shoes. She tied up the remaining pairs of socks and gave them to him. She patted him on the head and said, “No doubt, you will be more comfortable now.” As she turned to go, the astonished kid caught her by the hand and looking up into her face with tears in his eyes, asker her, “Are you God’s wife?”

• The parable of the weeds in the wheat makes the point that good and bad cannot be separated without harming the good.
• God’s people must trust divine wisdom as they face the evil in the world.

The Five First Saturdays devotion is one of the principal points of the Fatima message. It centers on the urgent need for mankind to offer reparation and expi-ate for the many injuries that the Immaculate Heart of Mary suffers from the hands of both impious and indifferent men.On the First Saturday during 5 Consecutive Months, the Devotion consists of:1. Going to Confession, 2. Receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion,3. Saying five decades of the Rosary, 4. Meditating for 15 minutes on the mysteries of the Rosary. All this offered in REPARATION for the sins of blasphemy and ingratitude com-mitted against the Immaculate Heart of Mary. History During the third apparition on July 13, 1917, Our Lady revealed that she would come to ask for the consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart and for the Com-munion of Reparation of the Five First Saturdays. Consequently, she asked for the devotion in 1925 and the consecration in 1929. While staying at the House of the Dorothean Sister in Pontevedra, Portugal, Sister Lucia received a vision on December 10, 1925 where the Blessed Mother appeared alongside a Boy who stood over a luminous cloud. Our Lady rested one hand on the Boy’s shoulder while she held on the other hand a heart pierced with thorns around it.Sister Lucia heard the Boy say, “Have pity on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother which is covered with thorns with which ingrate men pierce it at every moment with no one to make an act of reparation to pull them out.” Our Lady expressed her request in the following words:“See, my daughter, My Heart surrounded with thorns with which ingrates pierce me at every moment with blasphemies and ingratitude. You, at least, make sure to console me and announce that all those who for five months, on the first Saturdays, go to confession, receive Communion, say five decades of the Rosary and keep me company for 15 minutes meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, with the purpose of making reparation to Me, I promise to assist them at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of their souls.” A few days afterward, Sister Lucia detailed this vision in a letter addressed to Monsignor Manuel Pereira Lopes, her con-fessor when she resided in the Asylum of Vilar in the city of Oporto, Portugal.Why Five Saturdays? Sister Lucia’s confessor questioned her about the reason for the five Saturdays asking why not seven or nine. She an-swered him in a letter dated June 12, 1930. In it she related about a vision she had of Our Lord while staying in the convent chapel part of the night of the twenty-ninth to the thirtieth of the month of May, 1930. The reasons Our Lord gave were as follows: The five first Saturdays correspond to the five kinds of offenses and blasphemies committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary. They are: a. Blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception b. Blasphemies against her virginity c. Blasphemies against her divine maternity, at the same time the refusal to accept her as the Mother of all men d. Instilling , indifference, scorn and even hatred towards this Immaculate Mother in the hearts of children e. Direct insults against Her sacred images Let us keep the above reasons firmly in our minds. Devotions have intentions attached to them and knowing them adds merit and weight to the practice.

The Young Disciples held summer camp at St. Anthony Parish
Two major points of focus were the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary and the travels of St. Paul. In addition, the children participated in daily Mass. On Tuesday and Wednesday eve-ning the Young Disciples hosted a Teen Mission for students in grades 7-12. Fifteen students participated.
Thirty children attended summer camp with the Young Disciples this past week. Approximately 60 people attended the potluck supper Wednesday evening and were entertained with singing skits performed by some of the children. The Young Disciples team members were Allegra Thatcher, Salem, Ore.; Shannon Stout, Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.; Delaney Bachman, Fargo, N.D.; and Kyle Kaufman, Hillsboro, N.D.

Today’s Gospel comes to us from the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 13; however, in just a few chapters prior to that (Chapter 7) we are told “Stop judging, that you may not be judged…for as you judge, so will you be judged.” There is no ques-tion that there are “weeds” among the flock, but it is not our place to identify them and sort them out. That is the work of God. As Catholics and Christians we must take care not to be self righteous and judgmental. Before we call into question someone else’s walk with God, we need to scrutinize and take care of our own. Stewardship is what we do, not what we necessarily think others should do.
