Technology will be essential to deliver a net zero carbon economy and securing the energy our homes and businesses need from the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).

The impact of this transition is far reaching across every part of society. Not least in the energy sector, and particularly in the oil and gas industry.

This has brought a new focus and energy to the work of the Technology Leadership Board (TLB) and for companies operating on the UKCS.

That’s why we’ve created the TLB strategy for the UKCS, which identifies the key opportunities and challenges for the future.

To deliver this strategy, we have worked with the Maximising Economic Recovery UK (MER UK) Taskforces to identify demand and provide strategic direction.

We have created clear priorities and are connecting industry, regulators, academia and technology delivery organisations to develop and deploy exciting new solutions.

We are also encouraging the sharing of knowledge, expertise and best practice – listening, supporting and communicating.

The success of our work is built on strong collaboration with the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA), the MER UK Forum and the Oil & Gas Technology Centre (OGTC) – key partners in our strategy.

Our ambition is for the UK offshore oil and gas industry, the most technologically advanced in the world, delivering safe and secure energy, increasing exports and contributing to the creation of net zero economy.

We invite you to work with us and play an important role in helping deliver a technology-enabled future.

Bill Dunnett

Co-Chair, The Technology Leadership Board

Make the UK offshore oil and gas industry the most technologically advanced in the world, delivering safe and secure energy, increasing exports and helping deliver net zero.

Our ambition

Right now this means:

Focusing on current technology challenges

Encouraging technology take up and deployment

Priming supply chain investment

Articulating technology grand challenges

Promoting digitalisation

Preparing for net zero carbon operations

Over the next 3-5 years this means:

Creating the right culture and behaviour

Tackling strategic challenges and opportunities

Progressing net zero carbon operations

Supporting the growth of carbon capture

Supporting hydrogen production capability

Supporting infrastructure reuse and repurposing
