TRAINING CAMP NOTES Camp roster

The Senators 2018-19 camp roster includes 57 players: Seven goaltenders, 16 defencemen and 34 forwards.

Twenty (20) players participated in the 2018 rookie camp and tournament in Laval, Quebec. The list of camp invitees is built primarily around the Senators’ draft. Twenty-six (26) players were Ottawa selections in NHL drafts, 13 players were signed as free agents, 10 players were obtained in trades, four players are signed to American Hockey League contracts, one player was obtained off waivers, one player is on a professional tryout and two players are on amateur tryouts, respectively. While forward Jim O’Brien was originally drafted by the Senators in 2007, he is presently considered a signed player given his most recent acquisition by Ottawa last season.

Thirty-one (31) players appeared in at least one game with the Senators during the 2017-18 season while another four players dressed with other NHL clubs. Of the 27 players who were invited to the recent rookie camp and tournament in Laval, Que., 20 participants have been invited to training camp.

The Senators 2017-18 season training camp roster also included 57 players: Six goaltenders, 18 defencemen and 33 forwards of which 26 players were selected by Ottawa in NHL drafts.

Rookie tournament

The Senators participated in their 18th rookie camp and tournament from Sept. 7 to 9. This year’s tournament was held in Laval, Que., with the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs also participating.

The Senators won the tournament with a 2-0-0 record and earned at least two victories (of a maximum of three) for a 10th consecutive year; a 4-0 win over Montreal in the tournament’s opener and a 6-5 overtime win over Toronto in the finale. The Senators rookies had trailed 5-4 late in the third period before Drake Batherson scored to tie the contest with 15.3 seconds to play in regulation time before Alex Formenton ultimately scored the game-winner 24 seconds into the extra session.
