    The term special operations denotes the capability of speciallytrained, equipped, and organized forces to respond to situationsacross the spectrum of conflict. Today, in a world where terror-ist acts, insurgencies, and low-level conflicts threaten Americaninterests, special operations have received renewed attention.As a result, the Services have been tasked to upgrade their spe-cial operations capabilities.

    To assist researchers in a better understanding of the Departmentof Defense's response to this need, the US Army War CollegeLibrary presents SPECIAL OPERATIONS: A SELECTED BIBLIOGRAPHY.This listing includes references to materials which explain themission, organization, and background of American special forcesand their operations. __U-j -
