SUBJECT: Letter of Recommendation for Blnd Othman

I am an associate professor of Civil Engineering and Construction Management at the Florida

Institute of Technology where I teach and supervise MS and Ph.D. student research. I have

known Blnd Othman for three years as a student in two courses and as his thesis advisor. I

strongly recommend Blnd for admission to your Ph.D. program. He has the intellect, research

skills, leadership, self-discipline, and motivation to make outstanding contributions.

Blnd is an extremely bright, mature student consistently placing in the top of his courses. He

showed exceptional self-motivation, producing professional products in both his course work and

research. He consistently looked beyond basic principles and strove to apply concepts to the real

world. Due to his extensive professional experience he was able to plan and conduct interviews

with local industry firms engaged in full depth reclamation (FDR) pavement rehabilitation.

Using this background, he designed and carried out a laboratory research program. Blnd’s thesis

research, Full Depth Reclamation Mix Design for Portland Cement and Asphalt Emulsion

Stabilized Blends, was published in the peer-reviewed Transportation Review Board annual

conference proceedings.

Other students recognized his natural leadership abilities and sought his assistance. He

demonstrated superior written communications skills in multiple homework assignments and in

his thesis. His work was always accurate, logically organized, and clearly presented. He was

articulate and engaged in class, and his groups gave well-coordinated project presentations. He

was able to clearly explain the material while keeping the audience’s attention. Blnd unfailingly

produces professional work and conducts himself in a professional manner. I am confident that

he will excel both in the classroom and in research work.
