Congratulations on your decision to take concurrent college classes at Oklahoma State University. Concurrent coursework is a great way to step into the college world while still in high school. While it may be easy to get lost in the excitement of college life, this decision is not to be taken lightly. When you enroll as a concurrent student, you commit yourself to taking responsibility for coursework and how it connects to your future degree plans.

Concurrent classes mark the beginning of your academic record, which will follow you to other universities, graduate schools and employers. As a concurrent student, you will be treated as all other college students and will be expected to keep up with the course syllabus and reading assignments while balancing your high school activities. A different level of commitment will be required to your college classes that you may not have experienced in high school. Studying, reading and participating in the classroom will be necessary to maintain your grades. To assist you in this transition, we offer vast resources to help you be successful.

Advisement and Course ChoiceYour academic adviser is one of your most important resources and advocates at OSU. Your adviser assists you with course choice, schedule planning and academic guidance. Your adviser can also direct you to campus resources to help you develop into a successful college student. While you are a concurrent student, you will be advised in the Learning and Student Success Opportunity (LASSO) Center, located in 214 Student Union.

When you meet with your adviser, make sure to discuss your future career plans or intended major. If you’re like most students, you have chosen concurrent enrollment to earn college credits that will help you get ahead in college. Additionally, consider coursework that will compliment your high school schedule while also counting toward requirements for your future degree.

Every degree program requires some form of general education coursework. At OSU, every student must take or test out of two semesters of English composition, math, history/government, humanities, natural science and social science. However, some degree programs require specific courses to fulfill those general education areas, in preparation for degree-related coursework in later years.

It helps in the long term to choose general education options with your future degree in mind (if you already know what degree you wish to pursue). This is equally important if you are not planning to attend OSU full time after high school graduation. No matter what, research the requirements for your intended school/degree program so you can work with your adviser to choose the most appropriate OSU concurrent coursework.

Course Numbering and Schedule Changes As a concurrent student, you will take freshman (1000 level) and sophomore (2000 level) courses unless otherwise permitted by the course instructor or department. The first number of a course tells you the level of the course, and the last number in the course tells the number of credit hours. Most courses on campus earn 3 credit hours, which means they meet for roughly 3 hours per week.

If you want to make changes to your schedule after enrollment, ALWAYS contact your academic adviser and high school counselor to determine the best course of action. Until the first day of the second week of class, you may adjust your own schedule through the Student Self-Services (SIS) system. During the remainder of the second

week, adding courses requires your adviser and the professor’s signature, and dropping a course results in a “W” on your transcript. If you require a change between the second and 12th week of classes, you should speak with your adviser to determine if withdrawing from courses with a “W” recorded on your academic transcript is the best choice. Remember, any class changes should be discussed with your high school counselor and OSU academic adviser to prevent issues related to your student status. Students who do not maintain enrollment in enough hours (high school and OSU combined) to be classified “full time” may not be eligible for extracurricular high school activities such as sports, clubs, band, etc. Additional issues could arise with family insurance policies, especially if the student is no longer a minor.


Math Placement Exam If you are planning to enroll concurrently in a mathematics course, please review these related requirements.

Who needs to take the Math Placement Exam?

Students who plan to take an OSU math course and don't already have college-level math credit with a C or better (on a college transcript) in a prerequisite or required math course for their major will need to take the math placement exam.*

Where do I take the Exam?

The best testing environment is in a controlled location conducive to the needs of the test taker. However, OSU will allow an exception for the initial test based on ACT/SAT score.

• IfyourACTmathscoreis19orgreater, or your SAT math score is 460 or greater, your initial exam may be taken from any computer with Internet access. If you would like to retake the exam, subsequent attempts must be done in a PROCTORED setting.

• IfyourACTmathscoreisbelow19, and your SAT math score is below 460, or if your test scores are not on file with OSU, you must take the exam in a PROCTORED setting. If the exam is not proctored, the test cannot count for placement purposes.

How often may the exam be taken?

You may take up to five exams without cost during an 11-month period. After your first attempt, exams must be proctored, regardless of ACT or SAT score. At least 24 hours is required between each attempt.

For your convenience, learning modules are available following your first exam to serve as a tutorial and refresher. You will have 6 weeks of free access to the modules, beginning the day you first open them. Additional access to the learning modules is available for a fee.

ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE & FREE TUTORING As you start taking college-level courses, you may realize the difficulty level of the material and assignments varies. It's critical that you engage in your coursework to succeed.

OSU offers FREE TUTORING to all students. The academically successful students are the ones who use tutoring and other academic resources and seek assistance early.

The Writing Center services include one-on-one consultations, a Writer's Hotline for brief answers to writing related questions, online chat services, reference materials and online resources.


Grades and Grade Reporting The quality of academic performance is indicated by the following letter grades: "A," "B," "C," "D," "F," "F!," "I," "NP," "P," "S," "U" or "W.”

• "F"Failure

• “F!”(Fshriek)indicatesthestudentfailed due to a violation of academic integrity. The first “!” (not the “F”) may be removed from transcripts by completing an academic integrity educational program. All OSU students are expected to uphold the policies and guidelines set forth in the Student Code of Conduct. OSU takes these codes and policies VERY seriously. Students are required to understand the Code and Academic Integrity Policy, which can be found at studentconduct.okstate.edu and academicintegrity.okstate.edu.

• "I"isgivenwhenastudentsatisfactorily completes the majority of the course work with a "D" or better, but has been unavoidably prevented from completing the course before grades are submitted.

• “P”or"NP"isearnedforsatisfactoryor unsatisfactory work (including work that evaluated as "D") in courses on the pass-no pass grading system.

• "S"or"U"isgivenforsatisfactory(equivalent to a "C" or better) or unsatisfactory work in remedial courses in English, mathematics, reading and science.

• "W"indicatesadroppedcourse.

At the university level, your course grades are not mailed home. The Federal Education Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA) states that you are the owner of your academic record and grades may only be accessed by you. OSU posts your grades to Student Self-Services (SIS). In addition, you may request your transcript, including all posted semester grades, in the Office of the Registrar at 324 Student Union. Unlike high school, your parents will not be able to obtain a copy of your grades without your written consent. It is best to speak with your parents or legal guardians before beginning college-level work to determine how you will handle communication of grades.

To maintain compliance with credit hour requirements for concurrent students, OSU reports concurrent enrollment status to your high school guidance office, but not grades. This information is used to calculate full-time student status for extra-curricular eligibility and other activities. At the six-week mark, you can view progress grades for courses at the 1000 or 2000 level. Final grades are not reported to your school unless you formally request an OSU final transcript from the Registrar’s Office. Please remember, if you choose to send grades to your high school for posting, ALL grades included in your OSU academic record will be sent.


Educational ExpensesConcurrent Tuition Waiver for High School Seniors

Oklahoma high school seniors enrolled concurrently at Oklahoma State University receive a tuition waiver for up to six credit hours the summer before their senior year, up to six credit hours in their senior fall semester and up to six credit hours in their senior spring semester. Because course costs are a combination of tuition and fees, this tuition waiver does not waive all costs associated with a college-level course. In addition to tuition and fees, additional costs related to course materials, laboratory courses, etc. could be incurred. In some cases, online and outreach courses may add to this cost as well.

High school seniors receive a waiver of academic/campus fees for the first course they take at OSU. All subsequent courses in that semester and beyond incur the same fees charged to all OSU students.

Please Note: High school juniors beginning concurrent coursework are not eligible for these senior-level tuition or fee waivers. You are responsible for the cost of fees, books and any other charges you make while on campus (i.e. food, supplies purchased, parking permits, etc.). For assistance in determining the charges you will incur, a fee estimation calculator is available at bursar.okstate.edu.

The Office of the Bursar bills and collects tuition, fees and other university related charges. Once you receive your student ID, you may use it to charge items (books, clothes and supplies at the University Store, campus dining, athletic tickets, parking tickets, etc.) to your bursar account. Keep track of the charges you make and discuss these charging privileges with your family to determine expectations and spending limits.

Billing statements are sent to your Oklahoma State email account on the 1st of every month. Payment is due by the 15th of each month. Late payments incur interest at the rate of 1.5% monthly.


OSU TechnologyO-Key and Email

Your OSU email address is the primary form of communication between you and OSU professors, offices and fellow students. It’s important you check this email regularly to stay informed. If you haven’t already activated your O-Key account, which also establishes your OSU email address, visit okey.okstate.edu and follow the activation steps. You may access your OSU email at okstate.edu/email unless you have it forwarded to a third-party email.

Online Enrollment Systems and Information Access

Student Self-Services (SIS) is Oklahoma State University’s online database where you may access and update information related to your academic record at OSU. Through SIS, you will:

To connect with Student Self-Services, go to prodosu.okstate.edu.

Log in to Student Self-Services using either of the following:

• OPTION 1 O-Key Email address and Password Use your O-Key (Oklahoma State University) e-mail address and password to login.

OR

• OPTION 2 Student ID number (CWID) and Pin

As students are added to the SIS database, PIN numbers are automatically generated. You will receive a random PIN number when admitted. You are required to change your initial PIN at your first log in.

Once logged in, use the navigation bar at the top of the page to view the areas you need. Student Self-Services is available on Mondays from 12:01 a.m. to midnight, Tuesday-Friday from 7 a.m. to midnight, Saturdaysfrom8a.m.to6p.m.andSundaysfrom 7 a.m. to midnight.

Course Enrollment

During orientation and enrollment, you will meet with your academic adviser to discuss your enrollment. Your adviser will help you determine a list of courses from which to choose your first semester schedule. For the actual enrollment, your adviser may enroll you directly or clear you to self-enroll through the online Student Self-Services system.


Adding Classes

You can enroll in classes and change current schedule options by scrolling over the registration tab and then clicking on the “Drop and Add

Classes” option. 1 This will take you to your current schedule or, if you haven't enrolled yet, a blank schedule.

You have two choices at the drop and add screen. If you know your course section’s call number, you can enter it here and click “submit” to enroll in the class or set of classes.

If you are still searching for the section to fit your course schedule, click on “Course Sections” and choose the course subject you want to take, then choose the course number of the class you want. SIS will bring up a list of all the times the class is offered and list which sections are open or closed.

In this example, French sections appear with notations related to section availability. 2 The days, time and instructor name will be included. Scroll down to view all section choices.

When you find the class offered at a time that fits your schedule, click “Enroll.” 3 If there is a time conflict or if you have chosen a restricted section (honors, special permission, learning community, etc.) that you are not eligible to take, a notation will appear at the top of your Drop and Add classes screen. Pay attention to these notations. If an error message appears, enrollment in the desired course is NOT complete. Once you are enrolled in your class, you may continue to search for classes through “Course Sections.”

note: When you select “enroll” from the course section page and the action shows on your schedule page, you are officially enrolled in that class.

Online Classroom (Desire 2 Learn-D2L) oc.okstate.edu

One of the online tools used on campus is Desire2Learn (D2L) — also referred to as the Online Classroom.

D2L gives online access to your class syllabus, class list and grades. Some professors will use this more frequently than others, while some will choose not to use it at all.

Here are some tips to get you started:

LOG IN: Log in using your O-Key user name and password.

COuRSES: From your homepage, you will see all of your courses in the middle column. 1 Clicking on each one will open the course homepage for a given class. This is where you might see course announcements such as exam locations or class cancellations.

COuRSE CONTENT: By clicking on the “Content” tab, you can access all of the materials that your professor might post for your class. 2 You will be able to see the information posted, save it to your computer or print it for use at a later time.

DROPbOx: If your professor chooses to do so, you may be able to turn in assignments on D2L. Click on the “Dropbox” tab to submit assignments. Click on the title of the assignment, then use the Browse button to upload a file to D2L. You may submit more than one file by using the “Add” button. Make sure you click “Submit” to complete your submission.

QuIzzES: If you need to take a quiz online, you will use this tab. All open quizzes will be shown. Click on the quiz you wish to take. Take note of any time limits or special instructions that may apply.

CLaSS LIST: If you need to email your professor or anyone else in your class, you may do so through the “Class List” tab. Note that any emails sent via D2L will be sent to the receiver’s OKState email, and replies will be sent to your OKState email.

GRaDES: If your professor chooses to post grades to D2L, you can access them by clicking on the “Grades” tab. Keep in mind that this is an optional tool that may not be used by all professors. If you have any questions regarding your grades, contact your professor.

Continuing Concurrent CoursesTo continue as a concurrent student beyond the initial semester, you must submit a new high school concurrent form with your latest high school schedule and new permission signatures prior to the new semester’s enrollment. No additional application fees, transcripts or test scores are required. Contact your adviser in the LASSO Center to schedule an appointment to discuss next semester's coursework. This should be done prior to your enrollment date. Log into the Student Self-Services (SIS) system to view your earliest enrollment date prior to setting your advising appointment.

Students transitioning from concurrent to full-time OSU student status following high school graduation must submit the full freshman admission and scholarship application. Students must apply before February 1 for full scholarship consideration.

Once admitted, students pursuing full-time freshmen enrollment must complete a New Student Orientation and Enrollment program (held May – July). Registration for these programs begins February 1 online at newstudents.okstate.edu.
