*Confession: P: Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God,

who creates us and forms us, who redeems us and calls us, who unites us and sends us.

C: Amen.

P: Gracious and loving God, C: we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves.

We seek our own way. We divide the body of Christ. In your mercy, cleanse us and heal us. Let the words of our mouths, the thoughts of our hearts, and everything that we do be filled with faith, hope, and love. Amen.

P: Hear the voice of Jesus: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me to proclaim release to the captives.” In the name of ☩ Jesus Christ, I proclaim to you that your sins are forgiven and you are released. The joy of the Lord is your strength, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit are yours forever.

C: Amen.

WORD

*Prayer of the Day P: Almighty and ever-living God, you hold together all things in heaven and on

earth. In your great mercy receive the prayers of all your children, and give to all the world the Spirit of your truth and peace, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C: Amen.

FIRST READING Job 19:13-27

13"He has put my family far from me, and my acquaintances are wholly es-tranged from me. 14My relatives and my close friends have failed me; 15the guests in my house have forgotten me; my serving girls count me as a stranger; I have become an alien in their eyes. 16I call to my servant, but he gives me no an-swer; I must myself plead with him. 17My breath is repulsive to my wife; I am loathsome to my own family. 18Even young children despise me; when I rise, they talk against me. 19All my intimate friends abhor me, and those whom I loved have turned against me. 20My bones cling to my skin and to my flesh, and I have escaped by the skin of my teeth. 21Have pity on me, have pity on me, O you my friends, for the hand of God has touched me! 22Why do you, like God, pursue me, never satisfied with my flesh? 23"O that my words were written down! O that they were inscribed in a book! 24O that with an iron pen and with lead they were engraved on a rock forever! 25For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth; 26and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God, 27whom I shall see on my side, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. My heart faints within me!

Reader: Holy Wisdom, Holy Word C: Thanks be to God!

Psalm 66:8-20 8Bless our God, you peoples; let the sound of praise be heard. 9Our God has kept us among the living and has not allowed our feet to slip. 10For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us just as silver is tried. 11You brought us into the net; you laid heavy burdens upon our backs. 12You let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us out into a place of refreshment. 13I will enter your house with burnt offerings and will pay you my vows— 14those that I promised with my lips and spoke with my mouth when I was in trouble. 15I will offer you burnt offerings of fatlings with the smoke of rams; I will give you oxen and goats. 16Come and listen, all you who believe, and I will tell you what God has done for me. 17I called out to God with my mouth, and praised the Lord with my tongue. 18If I had cherished evil in my heart, the Lord would not have heard me; 19but in truth God has heard me and has attended to the sound of my prayer. 20Blessed be God, who has not rejected my prayer, nor withheld unfailing love from me.

*Gospel Acclamation: Halle, Halle, Hallelujah

HOLY GOSPEL John 14:15-21

P: The Holy Gospel according to John C: Glory to you, O Lord

[Jesus said to the disciples:] 15“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. 17This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees her nor knows her. You know her, because she abides with you, and she will be in you. 18“I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. 19In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. 20On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.”

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen *Prayers of the People the response to each bidding is “Hear our prayer”

Please comment with your prayers for each category; and at the end of the prayers, you are invited to comment prayers that you would

like to be spoken out loud.

Uplifted by the promised hope of healing and resurrection, we join the people of God in all times and places in praying for the church, the world, and all who are in need. Silence...

Abiding God, you have revealed yourself to us in the form of your Son, Jesus Christ. Embolden your church, as your followers, to reveal your love to everyone in our speaking and in our living. Lord, in your mercy,

You are the creator of heaven and earth. Revitalize the health of oceans, rivers, lakes, springs, glaciers, and other bodies of water that give life to your creatures. Lord, in your mercy,

You come near to us when we are lost, and you hear our distress. We pray for those who suffer in any way (especially). Lord, in your mercy,

You call all people of the world your children. Judge the nations justly, show mercy to the oppressed, and speak truth to power through your prophets. Lord, in your mercy,

We pray for all the ways that racial hatred continues to eat away at the lives of young and old alike. We lament the destructive nature of white supremacy and its tentacles that cut away at human dignity and hopes of justice, leaving de-struction and death. We pause and name aloud those who have died because of these harmful circumstances: Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor...

You remain with us always, O God, and your kingdom has no end. We remem-ber the saints who have gone before us (especially). Unite us forever in your fi-nal victory over death. Lord, in your mercy,

P: With bold confidence in your love, almighty God, we place all for whom we pray into your eternal care; through Christ our Lord. C: Amen.

*Exchange of Peace P: The peace of Christ be with you always. C: And also with you.

Thanksgiving at the Table P: In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus gathered with his

faltering friends for a meal that tasted of freedom.

He took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to them, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.

We remember that night Jesus spent with his friends, and we feel his presence with us now. We ask God, through the Holy Spirit to bless these gifts we offer and share, making them Christ for us, and making us into Christ’s holy body. Together with all the church, we give you thanks: Creator, Redeemer, Spirit of love. Bind us together. Open our hearts. Grant us peace. C: Amen

Lord’s Prayer

C: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

*Agnus Dei: ELW 341 Now Behold the Lamb

Communion: The body of Christ, given for you. The blood of Christ, shed for you.

*Table Blessing P: May the One who brought forth Jesus from the dead, raise you to new life, fill you with hope, and turn your mourning into dancing. Almighty God, Creator, ☩ Redeemer, and Sustainer, bless you now and forever. C: Amen.

Prayer after Communion P: Life-giving God, you have fed us with your word, and our hearts burn within us. Through this meal you have opened us to your presence. Now send us forth to share the gifts of Easter with all in need; through Jesus Christ our Lord. C: Amen.
