Howdy Duty TimeTo Whom It May Concern:

First off, I would like to thank you all for a very nice

dinner and program on October 4. I know how much ef-

fort must go into a affair that large as I encountered a

lot of work putting a high-school reunion together for

Manual High School from 1950. We had 230 graduates

and I was able to find 180 of them for the 50th anniver-

sary in the year 2000. A lot of work but very satisfying.

I do have a suggestion to make, however. At the next

occasion, after registration has been accomplished, I

suggest an array of tables labeled 1940's, 1950's 1960's.

etc., so that people can be grouped by the period of time

they were at Buckley or in the service. This would enable

people to find other folks they might know, or at least

group peers together. For instance, I was called to ac-

tive duty on Feb 15, 1951 and helped to open up the tar-

paper barracks and other buildings involved in getting

the base back into functioning condition. We then moved

down to Clovis, New Mexico (October 1951 ??) and

opened it up in the same manner. I was Chief Clerk of

Wing Hq Sq and kept track of every one from an Airman

Basic to a Brigadier General (Brig Gen Joe Moffat) for

the purpose of filing the Morning Report every day, along

with other duties.

At your dinner, I was unable to find anyone from that

time period, but I did sit down at a table with 4 jet pilots

and listened to some pretty wild tales from the 60's.

Thanks again for a pleasant stroll down memory lane.

Ronald (Ron) Rutter, SSgt

140th Ftr Bmr Wg, Hq Sq, CANG

Just wanted to say thank you for the superb reunion you

folks put together. I really enjoyed the opportunity to see

and talk with so many of my old friends and associates.

The highlight of the evening had to be Gen France's talk.

Even though I was there at the time, I never realized the

ordeal our pilots went through on a daily basis.

Sincerely,

Richard Oelkers, Col, ANG (Ret)

I and many others appreciated your work and support of

the ’68 Call-Up Reunion. Thanks for all you continue to do

for the Colorado Guard and all of us.

All the best……

Bud Sittig

Since this is the first aircraft I ever worked on this story

brings great pride to me. I spent 2weeks of Air National

Guard Summer Camp at Natrona County Airport in Casper,

WY with the Colorado in 1953 with this great airplane and

several pilots, like Walt Williams, who was a W.W. 2 Ace in

this A/C, Walt went on to fly the P51 with the Colorado Air

Guards Minute Men, The ANG’s Official Acrobatic Team, A

team that I flew 2 years with. I also think of great Ameri-

cans like Chuck Yeager and Bob Hoover also P51 Aces who I

have known for 50 years.

Donna Burch; as of 7 Oct 2008, had been home for several weeks, was taking

chemotherapy for cancer, but felt good enough to go shopping with husband

Richard.

Jim Thigpen had three stints put in during cardiac surgery. I am sorry I

don’t remember when he had the surgery (a few months ago), but he is feeling

much better.

DECEMBER’S MEETING, 2 December, 1100, at TREA.

The meal will be a pork loin dinner for $10. Anyone who

did not sign up for this meal at the November meeting,

needs to contact me (phone or e-mail), by 24 November.

We are having a gift exchange this year. I’m not sure

what you call it but… if you want to participate, bring a

wrapped present, $10 maximum, it can be for a specific

gender or genderless. The seriousness of the gift is up to

you. Each participant will draw a number as they sign in.

The person with #1 will pick the first present. If #2

wants to steal #1’s present, then #1 will pick another pre-

sent. #3 may steal from #1 or #2, etc. A present can not

be stolen more than 3 times. It should prove to be an in-

teresting exchange, entertaining to say the least. Please

contact me, if you have any questions.

Hope to see you there!
