Unattended equipment left overnight next to a highway

Shall have

• appropriate lights or reflectors

• barricades with lights or reflectors to communicate to others about the location..

Provide a tire rack, cage, or equivalent protection

When working with a split rim or tires equipped with locking rings

• inflating tires

• mounting tires

• dismounting tires..

Bulldozer and scraper blades, end-loader buckets, dump bodies,

etc.When being repaired or when not in use

• Fully lowered

When equipment is parked,

• Set the parking brake

• Chock the wheels..

• Shall be safety glass

• Offer no visible distortion..

When operating off-highway equipment where additional

light is needed,

Equipment must be equipped with at least,

• two headlights

• two taillights..

All off-highway equipment shall be equipped with

• An adequate audible warning device

• that is in operable condition..

Off-highway equipment shall not be operated with an obstructed

view to the rear unless

• The vehicle has a reverse signal alarm audible above the surrounding noise level

or

• the vehicle is backed up with the use of a signal person..

Off-highway equipment with cabs shall be

• equipped with windshields

• equipped with powered wipers

• Cracked glass must be replaced..

Off-highway hauling equipment loaded with cranes,

shovels, loaders, etc.

• Must have a cab shield and/or canopy to protect the operator from shifting or falling materials..

Off-highway equipment to transport employees, shall have

• A secured seat for each passenger

• A seat belt for each seat ..

Pneumatic-tired earth-moving haulage equipment (trucks,

scrapers, tractors, and trailing units) whose maximum speed

exceeds 15 MPH shall be equipped with fenders on all

wheels• Most pieces of equipment in operation

today need fenders..

Material Handling Equipment (Scrapers, loaders, trucks, motor

graders, dozers, etc.)• Shall have seat belts• Seat belts not required if operated only in

the standup position• Seat belts not required if equipment does

not have ROPS..

Earthmoving or compacting equipment with an obstructed

view to the rear is not permitted, unless

• It has an operational reverse signal alarm

or

• A signal person to provide directions..

When Driving Piles in an Excavation

• Walls of the excavation to be sloped to the angle of repose

When the tops of driven piles are to be cut off

• Suspend pile driving operations

or

• Cutting can proceed while driving piles provided that the pile driving operation is at least 2 times the length of the longest pile from the cutting operation

Marine Equipment (Barge) shall have available or be supplied with

• At least one U.S. Coast Guard approved 30-inch lifering with at least 90 feet of line

• At least one ladder to reach from the top of the apron to the surface of the water..

Employees walking or working on unguarded decks of barges

shall be protected with

• U.S. Coast Guard approved work vests

or

• Buoyant vests..
