Expired or the lack of valid Operator Certifications are among the most common violations found during OSHA Inspections. The Forklift course is a half-day class typically given at a host company location, which has applicable equipment on site. The class consists of two hours of classroom instruction, followed by an on-site operator’s driving test for each individual to complete their certification. It is recommended that companies send not only their forklift operators but also other associated individuals such as the person responsible for keeping forklift operations records, floor supervisor, and auxiliary employees who work in close association with the forklift/operator. This latter group may choose not to stay for the driving exam portion of the program, and will receive a Certificate of Attendance instead of an Operators’ Certification. Curriculum: 10 Hour OSHA This is the core OSHA class and is targeted at the hourly wage employee. It is designed to give the average hourly employee basic safety skills and cognizance, and is the outstretched hand of any company’s internal working culture. Most 10 hour OSHA classes are run specific to a particular client company who meets the minimum of ten people attending. The class is actually eleven hours long, as OSHA has expanded the mandatory in-class topic requirements to include a 2-hour “Intro to OSHA” session. Full attendance is required to achieve certification. 30 Hour OSHA for Supervisors This class is directed at division and/or shift Supervisors and Managers who oversee a group of employees. The class includes all sessions required by OSHA. Our program here at IRSC has been upgraded to include training on promoting, instituting, and maintaining a Safety Program within your company and in each division of your organization. The new Federally mandated GHS (Globally Harmonized System) for Hazard Communication is also included in the program. Supplementary topics include how to fill out the mandatory OSHA forms, actively include your employees in the day-to-day safety activities, and even how to handle OSHA—should they show up at your door.
