An Ode to Summer SixteenBy: Olivia Gillison

Oh, Summer Sixteen! What a joy you have been. With Fall in sight, it onlyfeels right to acknowdge some of your wins.

First, there was the Broad Street Run, in which thousands of people gotmoving on the feet, but not without a little wet sunshine treat. But by themiddle of May, there was nothing to say except to bring on the heat. While the South 9th Street Italian Festival had all of the deliciousdelicacies, the Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival made us want to dance inthe middle of the street. Through all the rest of the regattas and runs, allof the festivals were almost out done! By the time we kicked off the StreetSoccer USA , everyone was ready to move on from May.

The Philadelphia International Cycling Classic began our month of June, and who would have known it would end so soon. From community dayswith your neighbors and local police, to art shows and parades we didn'tmiss a beat. Philadelphia hosted the Copa America Centenario at LincolnFinancial Field, and we saw visitors from places like Argentina, Chile andBrazil. How lucky we are to be in a city that never repeats. The ending ofJune is always bittersweet, however the Wawa Welcome America!festivities gave us a sneak peak.

Spending your 4th of July in Philly could be the start of your new tradition, especially when people like Chef Irvine and Leslie Odom Jr. make thattheir decision. Needless to say, we were blown away with all the funpictures and activites happening that day. As the middle of July brought inmore tasty eats, we were already prepared for the DNC PhillyFeast. Thismonth of July was really one for the books, as we closed it out with anomination for the First Female President - oh, what a look!

Then came August, the month no one wants to see, mostly because itmeans no more fun trips to the beach. The North 2nd Street Festival gotus jamming with good vibes, and The Philly 10K took us all for one lastlong ride. We moved into Labor Day with some of the hottest artists intown, even Beyonce & Jay Z showed up and made their rounds! Made inAmerica, it's 5th year edition, has truly become a Philadelphia Labor DayWeekend tradition.

And thus my friends, ends our OSE Summer. Lots of fun memories andlaughs to take with us, so it isn't a bummer. As we settle in for some longnights ahead, just remember that there's always next year, but for now,we'll look forward to the holidays that are near.
