Competition and technology

Physicians and hospitals have traditionally had interdependent relationships; however, market forces and recent technology advances have weakened hospital-physician relations, pushing hospitals and physicians to become competitors.

This is because some physicians decide to drift away from hospitals and become owners of their own clinics or private clinics and cause rivalry against the other hospitals.
