Hundreds Attend LA Easter Rally

Saturday, April 1, started out raining. Our plans to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ at the Studio Classroom Spring Rally got off to a rocky start. We had prayed that at least 300 people attend. Praise the Lord, we held the rally in a gym and kept dry. The rally included group singing and watching JOY, ORTV’s 2005 Christmas program, which told of Doris’ early ministry among the tribal people of Taiwan. Mr. Fang spoke about the resurrection power of Christ that gives people new life. Afterwards we split into six groups for games hosted by volunteer teachers and coordinators. 2007 Production Plans

The 2007 production-planning meeting held April 3 in our Taipei headquarters highlighted the challenges of modern media. As team leaders presented their plans, innovative uses of technology came up. After using virtual reality TV in 2006, we’re looking into on-line magazine offerings, podcasting, telephone downloads, iPod use, blogging and other applications. Pray for God’s guidance in all our plans. We want to make the right decisions as we think of how we can better serve people.

Former Pioneer Radio Staff Visit Headquarters

Peter (formerly Kevin) and Joy Wang, former ORTV staff in the 1950s, visited on April 12. Joy heard Doris play her trumpet many years ago in Hualien, eastern Taiwan. A middle student at that time, Joy joined the children’s choir when they recorded radio programs in Doris’ Japanese tatami-style home. At Christmas, Joy heard about the meaning of Christmas and became a Christian.

Doris later moved the radio ministry to Taichung, central Taiwan, and continued to make radio programs and hold Gospel camps for young people from around the island. Joy met Peter at a Sun Moon Lake youth camp and later they married. Peter joined the radio staff and hosted a radio program called “Morning Cheer.” For many years, Peter and Joy were involved in radio ministry.

Today, Peter is the pastor of Hualien Gospel Center and Joy, a retired elementary school choir music conductor for 20 years, continues to conduct the children’s choir in their church.

ORTV London Update

In May, Pastor Ivan Tao will begin study at Logos Evangelical Seminary in California. His wife, Sharon, and their son, Timothy, will remain in London. Sharon will continue various phases of the ministry through ORTV’s office there. Additionally, Melissa Tan, managing editor of the Studio Classroom magazine, will return to London to be with her mother during Mrs. Tan’s time of illness. Pray that the Lord will use Ivan to challenge his classmates at the seminary to be involved in outreach to overseas Chinese all around the world.

“It’s Getting Late!”

ORTV staff in Taiwan will come together May 3–5 for a time of challenge and renewal at the annual Spiritual Emphasis Retreat. This year’s theme is “It’s Getting Late!” Pastor Andrew Kou, Pastor Dale Wine and Angela Peterson will speak on preparation for the Lord’s coming. Heavenly Melody and the Sunshine Singers will lead in music.

Heavenly Melody Outreach

Indonesia Training Seminars

In May, Heavenly Melody will conduct music-training and drama seminars in three cities in Indonesia: Bundung, Jakarta, and Surabaya. Christian leaders from around Indonesia are expected to attend. Heavenly Melody will also host luncheons for business people and Chinese there. Simon and Sun Yueh, a famous actor in Taiwan, will be joining the group.

New Zealand and Australia Meetings

From June 13 to July 3, the Heavenly Melody will travel to New Zealand and Australia for outreach meetings. The meetings in Auckland and Christchurch in New Zealand and Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney in Australia will reach an estimated 10,000 people.

Sunshine Singers Shine for Jesus!

The Sunshine Singers—Angus Hsiao, Christina Tsai, Jason Lin, Libeck Kadu, and Rex Wee—are younger members of Heavenly Melody. This year has been a year of growth for them. In addition to having a regular feature on Studio Classroom, they have been working hard to improve their music skills so they can be better equipped for service.

Training in Chicago

From March 16 to March 31, the Sunshine Singers traveled to Chicago for music training. Under the guidance of world-renowned Gospel pianist Huntley Brown and Dr. Linda Morgan, the choir director of Living Word Church, they developed their vocal and music skills and expanded their vision for the Gospel. In Chicago, they sang with the Living Word Church Gospel choir and the 100-member Soul Children Choir of Chicago. They also sang on Total Living Network Gospel TV program.

School Rallies

From April to June, the Sunshine Singers will hold four rally tours across Taiwan. On a typical five-day rally tour, they visit ten different schools to hold rallies to groups of 400-2000 students. Their day begins at 5:00 or 6:00 AM, and ends at 5 PM.

School Ministry

ORTV’s school ministry includes contests, workshops, teaching demonstration sessions, rallies, and other English teaching activities. In 2005, we held 82 rallies in 14 cities across Taiwan, reaching 73,109 students. From January to April this year, we conducted 26 rallies across Taiwan, reaching 26, 200 students.

Reaching the Masses Via the Internet

Masses of people in Asia are surfing the Internet, searching for news, information and more. ORTV is rising to meet this need through our popular English teaching Web site, StudioClassroom.com.

One of our site’s most popular features is the “English Corner,” where visitors can exchange messages with ORTV teachers and with one another. The English Corner receives between 60,000 and 90,000 visitors per month. Students come to practice their English and meet friends, but others come with moral and spiritual questions. Though progress and prosperity has reached much of Asia, we can tell that many are still seeking deeper purpose and meaning in their lives. Several times we have had the opportunity to share with these seekers about the wonderful salvation available through our Lord Jesus Christ.

You can visit the English Corner by going to Studio Classroom.com/ecorner. Student letter from English Corner:

Dear Mrs. Peterson:While I listened to the program about “The Perfect

Child” today, I felt so emotional. When you talked about how some children cut themselves to manage the pain they feel inside, that reminded me of my experience. For some reason when I was a teenager I just felt intensive pain inside my heart. It was one of the darkest times I have ever had.

I saw the article “More Than How He Died” at the end of the month. It talks about Jesus. I don’t have any religion, but I always hope I can. I know you and Mr. Peterson both studied divinity, but what is divinity about? How can I put my faith in Jesus? I believe Jesus has the power to change one’s life. I hope I can have faith in Jesus.Grace

Friends From Around the World

Dr. Sung Lee and Dr. Donald Sunukjian visited from Biola University in April. Dr. Lee is the director of the International Student Education, and Dr. Sunukjian is the Department Chair of Christian Ministry and Leadership at Talbot School of Theology. ORTV helped make their arrangements in Taiwan, including organizing a pastor’s conference in which Dr. Sunkujian spoke.

Pastor Dale Wine, ORTV’s missionary-at-large, visited in April to encourage and help staff. He also ministered in churches in central and southern Taiwan.

Page 4: ORTV Pictorial 2006 Q2

Only 2 percent of Taiwan’s population is Christian. Most are still in bondage to idol worship. Annual round-island tours, such as last month’s with Matsu, goddess of the sea, promote idolatry as mayors and other prominent persons welcome the

image to their cities.

In April, Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou welcomed another god, Baosheng Dadi (“great lord” of medicine) in the 2006 Baosheng Cultural Festival. This festival included activities ranging from light entertainment to spiritualist temple rituals performed throughout its six-week run. Pray that Taiwan’s people may hear the truth and choose to let God set them free.

On May 27, Christian leaders will gather for Taiwan’s National Prayer Breakfast. As Christians, we want to unite in prayer and to preach the Gospel so more people in Taiwan will believe in Jesus. Heavenly Melody will sing at this special event. We know it’s getting late. Jesus is coming back soon! Pray that God continues to show us how we can better be His light and witnesses in this world.
