ORPHEUS & EURYDICE Orpheus o Musically talented o Said to be son of Thracian prince and Muse Calliope o Sailed with Jason on the Argo o Saved the heroes from Sirens o Mastered the lyre o Humans and beasts alike came to listen Eurydice o Wood nymph o Daughter of Apollo o Her marriage was blessed by Hymenaios (God of Marriage) Aristaeus o A minor deity infatuated with Eurydice o Made a plan to conquer Eurydice o Plan was to jump on and kill Orpheus o Waited in the forest thatOrpheus and Eurydice were walking through o Orpheus and Eurydice walked past o Aristaeus lunged at them o Orpheus grabbed Eurydice and ran away o Ran all the way through the forest until Eurydice tripped on a bed of snakes o Eurydice bit by deadly viper and died o Seeing as Eurydice is now dead Aristaeus abandoned his plan Journey to the Underworld o Orpheus overcome with grief after Eurydice's death o Decided to go to Underworld and bring back Eurydice o Orpheus played lyre for Chiron to get across river o Played for Cerbeus o Played for Hades and Persephone o Hades openly wept at performance o Agreed to let Eurydice go back to Earth Journey Back From the Underworld o Hades agreed to let Eurydice got back to Earth o Eurydice had to follow Orpheus back to the Earth o One catch o Orpheus was not allowed to look back for Eurydice, and if he did she would stay in Hades forever Orpheus' Death o Whilst grieving, Orpheus Orpheus could not find relief in anything, whether it be his lyre or the animals that surround him. o Orpheus spent his days, after Eurydice's death, lying on a rock staring at the sky o One day while staring at the sky, a group of women who scorned Orpheus found him and killed him o They cut his body into many pieces, leaving his head whole o Threw his body and lyre into a river o His head and lyre floated down to the island Lesvos o Muses on the island found his body o Gave him a proper burial o Soul descended to Hades o Reunited with Eurydice
