Featured Guest Governor John Kasich Judicial Salute Honoree Evelyn Lundberg Stratton Evelyn Lundberg Stratton Evelyn Lundberg Stratton retired as a justice from the Ohio Supreme Court in 2012. In 1989, Ms. Stratton was the first woman elected Judge of the Franklin County Common Pleas Court and went on to serve three terms on the Supreme Court. Her leadership on collaborative mental health reforms in the criminal justice system is nationally recognized. In 2001, she helped form and chaired the Supreme Court of Ohio Advisory Committee on Mental Illness and the Courts, which has now merged into the Attorney General’s Task Force on Criminal Justice and Mental Illness, which she still co-chairs with Attorney General Mike DeWine. Her drive to improve our court system to serve veterans also helped establish county-based Veterans Treatment Courts in Ohio. Ms. Stratton’s deep compassion for those in need has also worked to address costly recidivism rates and inefficiencies in our criminal justice system, saving millions of taxpayer dollars each year. Since retiring from the bench in 2012, she works as a consultant on criminal justice reforms, particularly focusing on engaging judges nationwide in these reform efforts. She is also Of Counsel to a major Ohio law firm, Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, where, using her years of experience on the trial court and Supreme Court of Ohio, she assists attorneys and their clients in their litigation and appellate matters. Among her many honors are the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Angels Award, as well as the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ Adoption Excellence Award. Additionally, in May 2008, Stratton received an Ellis Island Medal of Honor at a ceremony in New York City. Established in 1986 by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations, the Ellis Island Medals of Honor pay tribute to American citizens of diverse origins for their outstanding contributions to their communities, their nation and the world. Ranking among the nation’s most prestigious awards, recipients are listed in the Congressional Record. Ms. Stratton is a member of the American, Ohio State and Columbus Bar Associations. She is also member of the Ohio State and Columbus Bar Foundations and Women Lawyers of Franklin County. Ms. Stratton lives in Columbus with her husband and has two adult sons. Stratton received her J.D. from The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law. She earned her B.A. and an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Akron. Ms. Stratton also has an Honorary Doctor of Laws from Capital University Law School and an Honorary Doctorate of Community Leadership from Franklin University.

Evelyn Lundberg Stratton

Evelyn Lundberg Stratton retired as a justice from the Ohio Supreme Court in 2012.
