Sophia Girls’ College, Ajmer (Autonomous) affili-
ated to Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University is
an ‘A’ Grade accredited Institute by NAAC (UGC).
Since 1959 the College holds high repute in the re-
gion for imparting quality higher education through
its dedicated and conscientious staff with high aca-
demic credentials and diversity of offered courses.
Department of Geography
The Department of Geography was established in
1959 with an aim of imparting quality teaching, re-
search & consultancy with promotion of outreach
programs in the subject with major thrust areas as
Social Geography, Population Studies, Regional
Planning and Development, Geopolitics, Geospatial
Technologies, Urban Planning and Sustainability.
The department offers B.A, M.A /M.Sc and Ph.D
Programs in Geography and a Diploma Program in
Geographic Information System. The well equipped
Research and Geoinformatics Lab of the department
supports research explorations and facilitates inno-
vative and investigative culture for undertaking pro-
ject works. The department also has an Outreach
Centre for organizing Online Geospatial Programs
offered by Indian Institute of Remote Sensing
(IIRS), ISRO, Govt. of India, Dehradun.
Infrastructure
The department has well qualified and experienced
staff with expertise in Geographic Information Sys-
tem and Remote Sensing. It has a well equipped Re-
search and Geoinformatics laboratory with suffi-
cient logistics and has successfully housed many
National level workshops and Training Programs on
‘Hands on Training using Open Source Softwares’.
About the Orientation Program in Geospatial
Technologies
The three day orientation program in geospatial technologies supported by the Natural Resource Da-ta Management System of the Department of Sci-ence and Technology, Government of India will fo-cus on a general orientation to geospatial technolo-gies providing an overview of the technology and applications.
Accommodation
Registered participants will be provided all hospital-
ity during the stay. Accommodation facility will be
arranged at the closest hotel on twin sharing basis.
The hosting Institute will bear all expenses of ac-
commodation, food, lodging and study material dur-
ing the Winter School Program.
