Director Central Australia Paul Fitzsimons congratulated each student on their courage to pursue tertiary studies, not- ing that these were valuable years in which they would “glow and grow”. “The door is always open and we’re here to help,” he said before introducing staff from Student Services, the Akaltye Indigenous academic support centre and lecturers from the schools of education and health. “It has been encouraging over successive years to see a rising trend in attendance at our orientation program and this year has been no excep- tion,” he said. “The growth is also being reflected at post-graduate level where we now have 16 re- searchers studying niche as- pects of life across the community and ecosystem.” Students were told that a re- cent upgrade of the wi-fi net- work would give coverage almost anywhere on campus. They were also given an overview of Learnline, the uni- versity’s online learning sys- tem, and taken on a tour of the library. Representatives from the Student Advocacy Office and the organ and tissue authority DonateLife, also addressed the students.
