ActToChange wwwActToChangeorg ORGANIZING TOOLKIT
Ideas for Events Organize a bullying prevention event in
your school or community to raise awareness empower and support others You could do this by organizing
Bystander intervention trainings

an event in partnership with your peers Find
fellow students to help you coordinate and
facilitate the event Reach out to student
organizations teachers and school
administrators to ask them to sponsor or provide
support for your event
ActToChange wwwActToChangeorg ORGANIZING TOOLKIT
Set Goals for Your Event What are you trying to achieve with your event Do you want to educate students raise
community awareness or enlist the help and support of teachers and school administrators
Defining your goals will help you plan an effective event For example if yoursquore trying to raise
awareness try to reach as many different groups of people as possible Reach out to other
student organizations such as student government and ask them to co-sponsor the event or
advertise it to their members
However if the goal of your event is to build support and share stories about being bullied then
look for help from a supportive teacher or school counselor and find a private intimate space
where students can feel safe to share personal experiences

How Do I Discuss Bullying
What is bullying
Have you or anyone you know ever encountered bullying
Where do you feel most bullying happens
If it happens in school do you feel like it changes the overall school environment
If it happens outside of school where does it happen Is it easier or harder to deal with bullying when it happens in a school setting
Why do you think people pick on each other
What do most people do when they see bullying and why do you think they react that way How are some ways a person can react when they witness bullying
Do you know of a situation where someone stood up for someone else who was being bullied What did they do What do you think made them want to defend the person being bullied
Do you know of a situation where someone tried to confront a student who was bullying another What happened
When bystanders get involved what do you feel works or doesnrsquot work to help stop bullying
How do your friends deal with other friends being bullied
Think of the kids who bully in your school or community Why do you think they bully others
What are the roles that teachers and counselors play in addressing bullying Do you feel that they are able to help
If you have ever had teachers and counselors address bullying what has worked What hasnrsquot
What changes could be made in your school or community to help make it easier for students to speak up and take action against bullying
Starting a dialogue can sometimes be difficult but being able to talk about your experiences with bullying can help you and your peers feel less alone Itrsquos important to create a space that is inclusive safe and free of judgment Here are some questions you can pose to the group to help guide your discussion
