Vice-Chancellor’s Message It gives me great pleasure to send the message for the GTU Youth Festival 2011 at L.J. Institute of Pharmacy (LJIP), Ahmedabad. LJIP is hosting the Youth Festival on 14th and 15th October 2011 and on 19th and 20th October 2011. On 14th and 15th, the students from Colleges/ Institutions in the Ahmedabad zone of GTU will be coming together at the Festival. The inter-zonal Finals of the Youth Festival will be held on 19th and 20th. A University’s Youth Festival is designed to give an opportunity to the students of technology to celebrate their competence in arts.

Literature, Performing Arts like drama, music and dance, and, Fine Arts like sculpture and painting are intimately connected with the inner-being of a person. On the one hand, these permit an individual to express oneself and understand oneself better. On the other hand, these individual artistic works form a joint cultural canvas, which binds the group through a thread of shared joyous experience. Even when one participates in a play, which may be classified as a tragedy, it regenerates in us a new understanding of human and societal behaviour. To the extent that human societies have developed in silos, cultural heritage, as expressed through the arts, may look to be different. However every work of art is able to touch some chords in the heart of every human being. Therefore such festivals create a spirit of brotherhood and harmony.

National Youth Festivals (NYFs) in India started in 1995 and are organized around January 12 every year. January 12 is Swami Vivekanand’s birthday and is celebrated as the National Youth Day in the whole of India. In 2011, the Vice-President of India, the Governor and the Chief Minister of Rajasthan had come to the NFY at Udaipur. The NFY-2012 is to be held in Karnataka. I hope that the Gujarat delegation to NFY-2012 will have a fair participation from GTU.

We want GTU to be a great University. While making every single classroom, laboratory and workshop interesting is important, while working to make our programs practice-oriented is GTU’s mission, development of the complete personality of every student in all the hues, which come together to create a great human being, is the objective of the University. The Youth Festival is highly important since such programs contribute a great deal in achieving the GTU’s objective. I convey my Best Wishes for the success of the Youth Festival, being organized at the LJ campus.

I am very glad to know that L.J. Institute of Pharmacy, L.J. Campus, Ahmedabad, Gujarat has taken the responsibility to organize the inaugural Youth festival of GTU, Zone-1, 2011. India, in the future years, will be a great force to reckon with in all the areas. All the citizens especially young students are required to show case his or her qualities, not related with academics only but in the field of co-curricular activities too. It is very important to make the youth relative their potentials in varied fields & professions. All the students will have opportunity to perform various forms of arts such as music, acting, literature, fine arts etc. This youth festival will be the excellent platform for those hidden talents. Organizing Chairman’s Message This is a matter of extreme pleasure for me to welcome all of you to join this 1st youth festival, ”Xitij-Kala, Gyan and Samanway”, initiated by GTU. We have the privilege to host the Zonal and Inter-zonal events and we convey our sincere thanks to GTU for giving us this opportunity. L.J. Institute of Pharmacy is one such brainchild of these visionaries and now the host to conduct this youth festival at our campus, I feel proud to lead this endeavour and at the same time wish all the

participants ,the accompanying managers a very best luck for various events. Normally the professionals from technical fields are great at brain, but in the process many a times the other hidden talents remain unexplored, this youth festival is an attempt and an opportunity to extract such values from participants and provide them further platforms to excel at Zonal, Inter-zonal and then state levels. We wish our participants go great heights and achieve maximum levels for them, their institutes and finally make GTU proud. We welcome our distinguished delegated institutes heads, and sponsors to join wholeheartedly in this effort and encourage the participants. Thanks again and best of luck.

GTU wins Manthan Award 2009

Gujarat Technological University …at a Glance Gujarat Technological University was founded realizing the importance of technical education; a proposal was made by LD College of engineering to start a technical university in the state way back in 2005. This long cherished dream was realized, when in October 2007 Chief Minister Shri. Narendra Modi launched Gujarat Technological University and Gujarat Knowledge Society at a function organized at LDCE.

After the establishment of GTU a lot of improvements and changes are undertaken in order to revamp and technical education in the state. GTU has started a new method of examination and evaluation pattern for every semester. This entirely new concept has helped to mould the budding technocrats from a lump of mud to a very competent and sound profession. Gujarat Technological University has been awarded as ICT enabled university in the digital learning category which seeks to acknowledge and highlight the achievements of the institute in bringing new and innovative endeavors for the benefit of the higher education community.

GTU Innovation Council has been designed to establish close linkages with industries and businesses to make research and development at the University relevant to the needs of industries at national and international levels.

It aims to involve the industries, along with the students and faculty members, in an innovation campaign, whereby GTU rejuvenates technology education and develops quality research at the University and helps create a culture of design, new and improved products and processes in our industry. The Council targets to create a management system, which uses the existing structures and facilities by bringing them together for working for innovation. The council has decided to document every single success and to make the information available to all the stake-holders to develop self-confidence in the whole of the system.

One key aim of this mission is to develop inter-relationship for national and international collaborations for innovation in the fields of Science, Engineering, Technology and Management. The Innovation Council has started strategic steps to establish a close and

continuing inter-action between the industries & businesses and the students & faculties in all the undergraduate and postgraduate courses like Engineering, Management, pharmacy, MCA and Polytechnics and the faculty members in GTU. Though GTU Innovation Councils first objective is to nurture creativity and innovation within the University community, it has been designed to act as a catalyst of change for the whole of the society. The Council is sending out its students and teachers to businesses, industries and various organizations to continuously prepare projects and case studies for changes, which may lead to improvement in products or processes.

When 400, 000 students and 27,000 teachers (our likely numbers in 2013-14) start working as a force for innovation, we expect that the education and research at the University will be rejuvenated through anchoring it with the real-life problems in businesses, industries and the society. More importantly it will make our 34,500 SMEs, spread over 160 industrial estates, and our society more innovative.

GTU Innovation Council has set up 25 GTU Innovation Sankuls/Clusters, which are regional communities of GTU educational institutions and the industries in the region. The Council is setting up Udisha (Universal Development of Integrated Skills through Higher Education) Clubs in every GTU Institution for mapping every Technology student with an appropriate industry and for developing the soft-skills of the students. More than 300 Udisha Clubs have already been established.

The LJK has been established with a vision to impart best quality professional education with a social commitment to common people in order to meet the increasing demand for qualified professionals in different fields.

It was dream of B. M. Pirzada Sir to established world class professional education system and research to meet the all educational needs of students not only from Gujarat, but from across India as well as from other Countries.

LJ; L stands for ‘Lok’ (people) and J stands for Jagruti (awareness). Thus one of the important values at LJ is respect for people. LJ firmly believes in bringing overall development of students. LJK Inspiring Minds and Transforming Knowledge

Xitij-2011 (Kala Gyan Samanvay) The first grandeur is being organized by GTU in the month of October, 2011. It is a mega event encompassing Music, Dance, Literature, Theater and Fine Arts to show the Spirit of Youth Talent. More than Students from all the degree colleges affiliated to GTU shall be competing against one another in events like classical vocal, classical instrumental, light vocals, western vocals, group singing, Folk/Tribal dances, Classical Indian dance, Quiz, Elocution, Debate, Skit, Mimicry, Poster making, Painting, Collage work, Clay modeling and Cartooning. “GTU has identified Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Vallabh Vidyanagar and Surat as five zones to host competitions from October 10-15 (any two days). GTU's inter-zonal youth festival will be held from October 18-19 in Ahmedabad at the LJ Institute of Pharmacy. Renowned Print and, Electronic will continuously advertise the event throughout the day all the days. Following broad categories of events will be considered for the first youth festival.

Rules & Regulations for Participation

a) Maximum participants from each institute - 45 including accompanists & team manager b) One student can participate in maximum two events. c) Participating institute will manage accommodation. d) Every participating institute have to pay Rs 80/- per member for two breakfast, two lunch &

one dinner if they need food arrangements from host institute & rest of the food expenses will be borne by GTU/Host institute. Participating institute can make their own food arrangement.

e) Each institute will be held responsible for their controversial topic, remarks f) & discussion during youth festival.
