Your Scout Crew / Patrol As a Scout you belong to a crew / patrol. It is a group not more than 8 scouts bound together

by a common interest & friendship. For Senior Scout, the group is called a CREW. For Boy Scout, it is called a PATROL. In the crew/patrol where the scout learns to accept

responsibilities, leadership & comradeship. In the crew/patrol, everybody is required to work

not only as an individual, but as one team working side by side.

The crew / patrol is composed of eight scouts, each having a responsibility of

his own

1. CREW/PATROL LEADER The person whom the group looks up & depends

on. He must be reliable & efficient. In charge of leading the group through thick & thin Leads the group by his initiative & personal

example, in Scoutcraft knowledge as well as in Scout Spirit.

Also encourages the members in doing their advancement.

2. ASSISTANT CREW/PATROL LEADER Next in rank to the Crew/Patrol Leader in authority,

responsibility & experience. He takes charge of the group whenever the leader

is not available. He always support the leader in every activities &

meeting.

3. CREW / PATROL SCRIBE Keeps the record & logbooks. It contains records of activities & achievements of

the groups. He must keep attendance. He must also have a complete list of each member.

4. CREW / PATROL TREASURER He must be an exceptionally trustworthy scout

because he collects the dues & keeps the money to se spent on various Scouting needs.

5. CREW / PATROL QUARTERMASTER Takes charge of the group’s properties &

equipments Also responsible for the transportation

facilities needed during hikes & camps.

6. CREW / PATROL GRUBMASTER During hiking & camping trips, the grubmaster

prepares the menus for the meals of your group. He also takes charge of maintaining sanitation.

7. CREW / PATROL CHEERLEADER Also known as the Morale Booster

He is perhaps the funniest guy in the group.

From time to time, he teaches & leads the group in singing, cheering & yelling.

Whenever the morale of the group goes down, he always comes up with a smile.

8. CREW / PATROL HIKEMASTER Responsible for surveying all prospective

camping & outdoor activity sites. He takes charge of the group’s outside

activities. He also guides the group during its hiking

activities.

Four crews usually form a Senior Scout Outfits; while four patrols of boy scouts form a Troop. Both scout units are guided by adult leaders.

1. OUTFIT ADVISOR (for Senior Scout Outfits) / TROOP LEADER (for Boy Scout Troops)

Adult leader of the unit. Helps the boy leaders make the Patrol / Crew System

succeed in the troop. He assist & encourages each individual Scout to grow

through advancement He works with & through responsible adults to ‘give

better Scouting to more boys’. His leadership is more personal than giving direction.

2. ASSISTANT OUTFIT ADVISORS (for Senior Scout) / ASSISTANT TROOP LEADERS (for Boy Scout)

They generally assist their unit leader in his job. 2 or more assistant unit leaders are more

desirable. One is assigned to handle Program &

Activities, & another may take care of physical arrangements, troop records, meeting rooms, supplies & equipments.

The latter assists the unit leader in matters pertaining to Administration & Supply.

3. SENIOR CREW LEADER / SENIOR PATROL LEADER

The real leader of an outfit or a troop is still a boy. He is the Senior Crew Leader of the outfit or the Senior

Patrol Leader of a troop. He is the chairman of the Crew / Patrol leaders’

Council. He reports directly to his unit leader. He does his best to help Crew/Patrol Leaders with their

responsibilities. He is elected as the highest boy leader of his unit,

because of his leadership ability & his achievements. He plans & implements the activities of his unit.

4. ASSISTANT SENIOR CREW LEADERS / ASSISTANT SENIOR PATROL LEADERS

They take charge of the Outfit/ Crew in the absence of the Senior Crew Leader / Senior Patrol Leader.

2 or more assistants make operation of the unit more effective.

One may be assigned as the outfit / Troop Scribe. Though this function may be seperated. Keeps a record of all activities & decisions of the unit in

the logbook. Keeps a record of each member & writes letters related

to Scouting when necessary. Collects dues & records contributions received.

4. ASSISTANT SENIOR CREW LEADERS / ASSISTANT SENIOR PATROL LEADERS (cont.)

Another may be assigned to serve as the Outfit / troop Quartermaster.

Takes charge & keeps inventory of all the unit’s equipment.

Responsible for the maintenance & sanitation of the meeting room.

In camp, he works with the assistant unit leader in charge of supplies & physical arrangements.

5. OUTFIT / TROOP COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN & MEMBERS

Operate like a “Board of Director” concerned primarily with policy, interpreting the Sponsoring institution’s objectives & integrating it with those of Scouting.

Provide moral & material support to the Outfit / Troop.

One or more Kab Scout Kawan, Boy Scout Troop, senior Scout outfit & Rover Scout Circle belongs to a Sponsoring Institution, which may either be a school, a church, a club, a group of people, among others.

6. INSTITUTIONAL HEAD Lend the support of the institution to further Scouting

as a whole. He or she represents the sponsoring institution in the

local council.

7. INSTITUTIONAL SCOUT REPRESENTATIVE Coordinate the operation of the units sponsored by the

institution Facilitates the provision of support & ensures the

fulfillment of the obligations of a sponsoring institution to the units they sponsor.

Represents the institution in the District / Area Scouting Committee.

Is further divided into eight areas. Each area has 2 district. Our district is

DISTRICT 3 – B, MANILA COUNCIL, BSP

One Sponsoring Institution in District 3-B is CHIANG KAI SHEK COLLEGE
