Organelle Notes 1st period
Cell Membrane
The cell membrane is the outer covering of the cell consisting of a lipid bilayer with proteins embedded in it.
It's found in both Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic
The awesome function of this is is to control what goes in or out of the cell.
It's the outermost layer in plant and animal cells. Animal cells contains cholesterol, while plants don't.
Composed of fat molecules.
Cell Wall The cell wall is a rigid layer of polysaccharides lying on the outside of the plasma membrane of the cells of plants, fungi and bacteria. In the algae and higher plants, it consists of mainly Cellulose.
● A cell wall is found in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, but not in animal cells.
● Cell wall is like a filtering mechanism and provides support and protection.● Found outside the cell membrane.
Mitochondria is the powerhouse of cells.
They are organelles that act like a digestive system which takes in nutrients, break them down, and creates energy rich molecules for the cell.
It provides energy in the form of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate)
It has a double membrane. The outer membrane covers the organelle and containers the skin. The inner layer folds over many times and creates layered structures called Cristae.
The mitochondria is found in the cytoplasm of almost all eukaryotic cells
Vacuole~A space or vesicle within the cytoplasm of a cell, enclosed by a membrane and typically containing fluid.
~ A vacuole is character type of organelle found in a plant and fungi cell and many single-cell organisms. The single large vacuole of the cell is surrounded by a memebrane, called the tonoplast, and stilled with a solution of water, dissovled ions , sugars , amino acids , and other materials.
~ Vacuoles are storage bubbles found in cells. They are found both animal cells and plant cells. Vacuole might store food or any variety of nutrients.
Ribosomes ExplainedThe ribosomes are found in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes cells. Ribosomes are free floating in both cells. Ribosomes are small machines that are responsible for the production of proteins.
Cytoplasm
Is a thick liquid that fills each
cell and is surrounded by
the cell membrane
Different types of fluids ● Mitochondria● Endoplasmic
reticulum● Golgi apparatus ● Nuleus
Cytoplasm is mostly made out of water and salt. Cytoplasm contains molecule like enzymes which are responsible to break down any waste and also aid in metabolic activity.
2nd period presentations
Ribosomes- Ribosomes are found in an eukaryotic and prokaryote cell to manufacture proteins. - In prokaryote ribosome an be located floating around the cytosol. In eukaryote ribosomes can be located anywhere around the eukaryotic cell.- Ribosomes make proteins that will be used inside the cell.m
Cell membrane- a membrane surrounding the cytoplasm of a cellCell wall- a rigid layer that protects the cell
Cell Membrane/ Cell Wall
A cell membrane and so wall art on both eukaryotes and prokaryotes.
A so membrane and a cell wall are both found around the cells.
Slide By: DD, Cierra, Lainey.
- Eukaryotic- Found throughout the cell but the density is higher
near the nucleus and the Golgi apparatus- The endoplasmic reticulum is a membrane
system of folded sacs and interconnected channels that serves as a site for protein and lipid synthesis
Endoplasmic Reticulum
VacuoleBy: Uriah and Karen
It is a organelle found in plants & animals
Found in the cells membranes
The main function of a vacuole is structural support and storage and waste disposal
Lysosomes
Found in both plants, and animal cells but more common in animal cells lysosomes contain enzymes that help breakdown wasteful matter and involving material. Lysosomes are found near the Golgi apparatus.
Cytoplasm● This is basically known as the
jelly like fluid in the cell.● It takes up most of the space of
the cell.● Cytoplasm is the substance that
holds other organelles in place.● Consists of dissolved carbs, fats,
and proteins.● 80% of it is water, while the
other 20% is listed above.
What is a Mitochondria
-Mitochondria has small organelles that float freely through cells - Also known as the power house cell -Is a Double membrane-bound organelle - Found in most eukaryotes
Function of a mitochondria
-Depends on the cell types , The most important function is the produce energy , these charge molecules combine with oxygen and produce ago molecules - Mitochondria plays a important role programmed cell death.
4th Period Presentations
VacuolesStorage bubbles for nutrients for the cell and plant and/or animal
● They store waste as well to protect the rest of the cell from contamination● Both plant and animals cells have vacuoles● Vacuoles are much larger in plants than in animal cells
MitochandriaOrganelles found in large numbers in most cell,in which biochemical processes or respiration and
energy production occur .
NUCLEUSThe central and most important part of an object, movement, or group forming the basis for its activity and growth.FUN FACTS
- Nucleus can contain 2 meters in DNA
- Nucleus can contain double membrane
- Very small volume compared to volume of atom
- Brain of the cell
- largest organelle in the cell
FUN FACTS
- Cantain DNA of the cell
- 10,000 times smaller than a atom
- The nucleus was the first of the cell organelle to be discovered by scientists
- It usually takes up about 10 percent of the cells volume
-it's a eukaryotes
Ribosomes:● Ribosomes are a complex molecular machine
found within all living cells. ● Found in both Prokaryotes & Eukaryotes ● Ribosomes link amino acids together in the
order specified by messenger. (RNA)● Two major components: Small Ribosomal
Subunit & Large Subunit ● Each subunit is composed of one or more
ribosomal RNA molecules & a variety of proteins.

VacuoleFunction:
holding/storing water
Storing waste product
Maintaining internal pressure
Isolate material that could harm the cell
Found in Eukaryotic Cells
A vacuole is a membrane bound organelle which is present in all plant and fungal cells and some protist . Animal and bacterial cells.
Chloroplasts: are organelles found in plant cells and eukaryotic algae that conduct photosynthesis. Chloroplasts absorb sunlight and use it in conjunction with water and carbon dioxide gas to produce food for the plant.
WRITE THE FOLLOWING DOWN!!!!!!!
-Eukaryote
-Produce Food
-Found in Plant Cells only

Endoplasmic reticulumDefinition-A network of membranous tubules within the cytoplasm of a eukaryotic cell, continuous with the nuclear membrane. It usually has ribosomes attached and is involved in protein and lipid synthesis.
Facts- There are two types of endoplasmic reticulum rough and smooth.
Where is it-The endoplasmic reticulum is especially prominent in cells such as hepatocytes.
