SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK

Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos October 26-27, 2019—26 y 27 de octubre de 2019

This year we will celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick on the weekend of October 26th and 27th, during our regular weekend liturgies beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday at the 7:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 10:30 p.m., 12 noon and 6:00 p.m. masses. This sacrament is rooted in the many scripture accounts of Jesus’ compassion, care and frequent healing of the sick. This attentiveness and healing of the sick is central to the ministry of Jesus. If you wish to be anointed at mass, please complete the registration form below and drop it in the collection basket or the rectory mailbox. If you have any questions, you may call the Parish Office at 773-767-1246. What is RCIA and Who is it For? The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a process to help the unbaptized become familiar with the Catholic faith community. Through this process, people may choose to enter the Catholic Church. The inquiry phase allows seekers the opportunity to see what being a Catholic is about.

Those who have been baptized in different faith tradition may also participate in a process to find out what the Catholic faith offers and how it is different from the faith into which they were baptized.

We also have a process for baptized Catholics who have not received Eucharist and/or Confirmation.

If you would like more information about any of these options or if you are not sure which is the right one for you, give me a call (Terry at 773‐767‐1246) and I would be happy to answer your questions! (The phone number is the parish rectory, just ask for Terry.)

The Baby Bottle Project / Proyecto de Botellas de Bebes On Sunday, October 6th, our parish will be participating in The Baby Bottle Project benefiting The Women’s Centers of Greater Chicagoland. This non‐profit organization directly assists mothers and families experiencing crisis pregnancies by offering emotional, financial, material,

and spiritual support through counseling, clothing & monetary provisions, prayer, and other aid. Each year the three locations together have over 5,000 appointments with expecting mothers. By God’s Grace, The Women’s Centers have saved almost 40,000 babies—and their mothers—from abortion since opening in 1984.

Please take a Baby Bottle home with you from the church on October 6th, fill it with your spare change, and return it the weekend of October 27th.

This is a simple, but crucial fundraising effort for The Women’s Centers. Please note the Baby Bottles cost almost $1.00 per bottle and are recycled afterwards so please return upon completion of the project. Thank you for helping defend life, and remember to keep all pro‐life undertakings in your prayers.

St. Mary Star of the Sea School was excited to welcome the second class this past Monday. It was a fun‐filled class. Baby Stars classes will be held on Mondays from 9‐10AM We ask only that you pre‐register for each week so we can anticipate the class size. Call 773.767.6160 to register. Space is limited.

This class consists of parents sitting down on the carpet with their child, while participating in song, dance or other movement. For this reason, children and parents dress casually and comfortably to sit during circle time, wearing clothing that allows full movement and participation. We ask that each child wear long pants, to avoid knee scrapes. There is absolutely no cost for this program.

La escuela Sta. María Estrella del Mar estaba emocionada de dar la bienvenida a la segundo clase el lunes pasado. Fue una clase llena de diversión. Las clases de Baby Stars se llevarán a cabo los lunes de 9 a 10 AM. Solo le pedimos que se registre previamente cada semana para que podamos anticipar el tamaño de la clase. FOUR WINDS CASINO A trip to Four Winds Casino is being held on Wednesday, Oct. 23rd, for the benefit of our parish. The cost of $35/person includes motor coach transportation, $15 instant slot credit, $10 in food credit and bus driver tip. Casino requires minimum of 40 people to assure trip with a maximum of 55 people. Please make your reservations prior to Oct. 16th. Departure from St. Mary at 9 AM and return approximately 4 PM. CONVERTS: RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults begins each year in September, reaches its climax with Baptism or reception into the Church at the Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday), and concludes on the fiftieth day of Easter, the feast of Pentecost.

SICK CALLS: For confession, anointing of the sick or in any emergency, please call the Rectory.
