Server

Server is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. A server is aphysical computer that is comprised of processing units, memory, and input/outputcapabilities and that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications forone or more users or client devices. Where racks, blade enclosures, or other similarequipment is being employed, each separable physical device (for example, a bladeor a rack-mounted device) that has the required components is considered it- selfa separate server. For the purpose of server-based licensing, licensee must obtainentitlements for each server which is made available to the program.

Socket is a unit of measure by which the size of the server is classified. A socketis electronic circuitry that accepts a processor chip. A processor chip is electroniccircuitry containing one or more processor cores that plugs into a socket. Aprocessor core is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets andexecutes program instructions, and consists of at least an instruction control unitand one or more arithmetic or logic units. At the time of this announcement, thenumber of sockets available in IBM System x and Blade Center servers is used todefine the size of the server for licensing IBM Systems Director Express Edition forx86. Licensee must obtain entitlements for each Server on which the program isinstalled or managing. For single System x configurations consisting of two to four


4-socket nodes, Systems Director Express Edition may be ordered using the largeserver charge metric.

The size of the server is based on the following criteria:

• Small server: 1 Socket

• Medium server: 2-4 Sockets

• Large server: More than 4 sockets

Per install and managed switch

IBM Systems Director Network Control uses per install and per managed switchcharging metrics. An installation license is required for the machine running theIBM Systems Director Network Control program. A managed switch license is alsorequired for each switch and router being managed.

Install is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Install is aninstalled copy of the program on a physical or virtual disk made available to beexecuted on a computer. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each install of theprogram.

A license is also required for each switch and router being managed, and arecategorized as virtual, physical, or distributed.

Virtual: A virtual switch is a software-only, managed switch that runs on, andmanages traffic for, a single server.

Physical: A physical switch is a hardware based switch. This can be a fixed ormodular switch, of any physical size and number of ports. It must be a singlechassis that shares power (electricity). The device is capable of being managedindependently, but need not be deployed as such: Switch features may allowstacking multiple switches to reduce the number of management points or it maysupport being separated into different logical switches.

Distributed: A distributed switch is a single logical switch that is distributed acrossmultiple physical devices. This can be a distributed virtual switch (software) runningacross multiple servers, or a single logical switch distributed across multiplephysical devices (for example, a switch with distributed line cards). The distributedcomponents are not managed independently, but rather a central management pointis provided as part of the logical switch.

Install

Install is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Install is aninstalled copy of the program on a physical or virtual disk made available to beexecuted on a computer. Licensee must obtain an entitlement for each install of theprogram.

Populated socket

Populated socket is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. Asocket is electronic circuitry that accepts a processor chip. A populated socket is asocket in which a processor chip is installed. Licensee must obtain entitlements foreach populated socket on each physical server made available to the program.

Managed chassis

Managed chassis is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. Achassis is a physical enclosure structure that provides services such as power,cooling, networking, various interconnects, and management to IT elements whichdock inside the enclosure.


Licensee must obtain managed chassis entitlements for each chassis managed bythe program.

Processor Value Unit

Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure by which the program can belicensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processortechnology, defined within the PVU Table by Processor Vendor Brand, Type and ModelNumber at

and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues todefine a processor, for the purposes of PVU-based licensing, to be each processorcore on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.Licensee can deploy the program using either Full Capacity licensing or VirtualizationCapacity (Sub-Capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the web page below). If using Full CapacityLicensing, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activatedprocessor cores2 in the physical hardware environment made available to, ormanaged by, the program except for those servers from which the program hasbeen permanently removed. If using Virtualization Capacity licensing, Licensee mustobtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made availableto or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization CapacityLicense Counting Rules at

Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, Licensee must obtainPVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores for thesystems on which the resources managed or processed by the program reside.
