Mr Coman will introduce Mr Dennis Pryor, who willdeliver the Occasional Address. Mr Pryor is Reader inClassical Studies at the University of Melbourne andtelevision critic for "The Age".

Mr Coman will confer the diplomas and degrees.

Mr Coman will close the proceedings.

The academic procession will leave the hall.

The T.W. Higgins Prize

The T.W. Higgins prize is presented annually to the bestgraduating student in the business degree course.

The prize commemorates Mr Tom Higgins, a formerPresident and Life Governor of Swinburne, who took akeen interest in business education over a long period.

Mr Higgins joined the Swinburne Council in 1958. Hehad a long and distinguished career in business andserved as a director of a number of firms. At the time hejoined Council he was Deputy Managing Director ofARC Industries.

At one time Mr Higgins served on all CouncilCommittees and was especially active on the FinanceCommittee of which he was Chairman.

In all he served for 19 years. He was president from1972 until 1977. He was awarded an honorary Diplomaof Business and made a life governor in 1978.Mr Higgins died in 1984.

The A.F.E. Tylee Award

This award cummemorates the distinguished service of aformer director of Swinburne who died in 1966.

Mr Tylee, a civil engineer, was appointed Director of theCollege upon the retirement of Mr F.W.Green in 1950.

Mr Tylee was a foundation member and a fellow of theAustralian College of Education and a member of theInterim Council of the Victoria Institute of Colleges. Hetook a deep interest in the Australian outback: travellingwidely, taking photos and films and gathering materialfor articles.

On his untimely death a memorial fund was establishedby his colleagues and the Rotary Club of Hawthorn. Theincome from the fund is devoted to the purchase ofbooks for a collection of Australiana in the SwinburneLibrary. This collection is known as the A.F.E. TyleeMemorial Collection.

The Tylee Award will be accepted by the President of theStudent Union, Ms Lisa King.
