DON’T FORGET!As I age, it seems that the words I hear most when I leave the house are “Don’t forget…” My memory is getting worse and worse. We can be a forgetful people, but we are not alone in that. It was also true of God’s children. God always has to encourage his children to remember. Let’s take a look at scripture and see some things that God wants us to remember. We need to remember that there is none like God! “Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is none other; I am God, and there is none like me” (Isa.46:9). We need to remember God’s words! Paul told the Ephesian elders, “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive’” (Acts 2:35). We need to remember that God will not forget us! “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you” (Isa.49:15). We need to remember that God is with us! His promise is with us just as it was with Joshua, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go” (Josh. 1:9). We need to remember the benefits of being a child of God! “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,” (Psa. 103:2). We do serve a mighty and wonderful God. He has done great deeds for us and has loved us beyond words. How has your memory been about God lately?

Davy’s Diary Davy Carter, Outreach Minister

Sunday morning we end the series, “Scripture: God’s Holy Fire.” The theme is taken from a book published by ACU several years ago. The prophet Jeremiah said the Word of God “is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones.” (Jer. 20:9) James asserts that you should “humbly ac-cept the word planted in you, which can save you.” (James 1:21) Have you been in the Scriptures so much that the Word of God is in your heart, burning like a fire? Have you interacted with the Bible to such an extent that God’s Word is planted in your heart?Do you every day read God’s Word, and humbly accept and obey?

Bible ClassJoin us for Bible Class this Sunday @ 9:00. Bible Study for February: Living Out Authentic FaithFeb. 24… Pursuing Him With Purpose – Phil 3:7-14The Spring Quarter will encompass a study from Ecclesiastes, Luke & a series on Life’s Big Questions.March – Chasing the WindMar. 3… Coming Up Empty – Eccl. 1:1-18Mar. 10… Chasing the Wind – Eccl. 2:1-26Mar. 17… When More Isn’t Enough – Eccl. 5:8-6:12Mar. 24… Wisdom! What Is It Good For? – Eccl. 9:7-18Mar. 31… What’s the Point? – Eccl. 11:9-12:14Thoughts on Serving in the Kingdom…Serving… Who is the Christian to serve? Who is my neighbor? An earnest lawyer asks Jesus this question in Luke 10:29. We soon learn it’s one of those conversations that’s padded out in advance. He asks a question to set up something he wants to say. He was earnest to “justify himself,” as Luke makes clear. And obviously, he was feeling pretty good about how it was going through verse 28. But then comes the curve ball. Whatever this lawyer had in mind for the answer, it wasn’t the story Jesus told. And it’s not what we would expect either. Yes, we may all know the parable of the Good Samaritan, but it can be a little confusing. The “neigh-bor,” it would appear, is the man going down from Jerusalem to Jericho who was beaten and left for dead (Luke 10:30). The neigh-bor is the object, the one of whom the three other characters en-counter. But in the end, Jesus says the Samaritan who helped his man “proved to be the neighbor” (Luke 12:36-37). So here we are, along with the lawyer, trying to figure out whom we’re supposed to love, and Jesus turns the question around. Look at this man who acts in mercy. Stop asking, “Who is my neighbor?” There are deeper questions to ponder. As one writer explains, “When we are done trying to establish, ‘Is this my neighbor?’ — the decisive issue of love remains: What kind of person am I?”

A dad told his son, ”Life doesn’t come with an instruction book—that’s why we have fathers.” Many dads believe this and fail drastically in their parenting.Guess what fathers? Life does come with a tremendous instruction book, the Holy Word of God. The Bible gives valuable insight and guid-ance to dads as they lead and direct family affairs.Eph. 6:4 admonishes fathers, “…provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Col. 3:21 similarily states, “Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.” Deut. 6:7 implores fathers, regarding the Lord’s commands, “…to teach them diligently to your children, talk of them while sitting in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.”Most definitely life comes with a mighty fine instruction book. It is our job to use it.

Feb 24th: Teen’s only Devo...Keen’s Home 5:00 pm Mar. 3rd: LTC practice begins following AM services, lunch provided Mar. 3rd: Teen Devo in the LighthouseIf you’re new or not connected to our student ministry, please download the Band App and search for WESM, and also please email [email protected]. Also follow us on Facebook under West Erwin Student Ministries. Parents seeking to honor their Godly calling as a parent must choose to remain in a place of authority where they can be respected. This will also allow their child the opportunity to live out their Godly calling to “honor their father and mother”…so they may be blessed. Parenting is hard, often it is not fun or even cool. If we are once again honest, it is much easier to just be our teen’s friend. It feels much nicer to be liked than to face the difficult task of being the “adult”. If we put in the hard work, though, it will pay off. We will save both our children and ourselves many problems in the years ahead.
