Thinking about Careers in Key Stage 3 and 4
Year 7 – ‘Healthy Happy Futures’.
Students explore what they need to ‘discover about themselves’ to
achieve their ideal way of life when they
are an adult.
Year 8 – ‘The Real Game’
Students live the virtual life of an employee in a particular career. They will make decisions at various stages of their
life - both personal and professional and
consider the reality of living a particular
lifestyle.
Year 9 – ‘Preparing for Choices’ and ‘Where can my interests take me?’ Students consider what motivates them and what they really enjoy to help steer their IGCSE choices and maximise their
potential. Students explore possible careers
surrounding their favourite subject areas.
Year 10 – ‘Reflection Time. What can I build
upon?’ Students have
specialised interviews with the Careers Team to evaluate their areas of interest and success
in order to start thinking about their next steps.
Year 11 – ‘The Real World’ Students have an
opportunity to gain real Work Experience.
In curriculum – focussed interviews to support
students making balanced and informed decisions for
Key Stage 5.
“All of these experiences, deepened my determination to study medicine, but also, they broadened my vision to other medically-related fields .” Helena Martin – Bumrungrad Hospital
“I could see that I had underestimated the enormous effort that goes on behind the scenes in hospitality.” Eugene Kim – Hotel Muse
“This experience has definitely strengthened my interest in educational and child psychology; I hope that one day I will be able to work in that field.” Katie Condon – The Village International Education Centre
“The most valuable lesson I learned was that work becomes your life, it fills the day from 9am to 6pm, it’s better if you enjoy it.” Karim Chen – Ducati Dealership
Specialised means to take classes in mostly one type of subject Explore means to take classes in a wide range of subjects before specialising

What Parents can do? • Let your child have the driver
seat
• Discuss openly student’s hopes and your expectations
• Discuss openly the financial
restrictions for funding university studies
• Prepare any financial necessary documents
• Encourage ‘match & fit’ over prestige. Ignore rumours or check them out with us
• Rejections happen; help your child keep them in perspective
