Current status
Geospatial information is vital for numerous activities and businesses: Security, environment, insurance,
logistics, etc. Tracking and contextual information
(context awareness) Organisations collaborate, at a national
and international level Significant investments have been
made in ICT systems for decades

Risk & Crisis Management: an example
» Recent studies show that the number of risks and crises is increasing on a global scale.
» Disasters do not respect borders» Institutions depend on their information systems.
» Problems due to: Lack of interoperability
Inadequate use of standards Insufficient access to information and data Lack of common terminologies and, generally,
of understanding. Have as result: deficiencies in coordination and
teamwork (vision, strategy, procedures, business models, etc.)
The current IT systems were not designed to work together

http://www.eu-orchestra.org
Objectives
To design and develop an open service architecture, based on standards (OGC, ISO, W3C) in order to ensure interoperability.
To develop relevant applications for various multi-risk, cross-border scenarios (there are 4 running implementations in Europe)
