Brethren,
Our Installation of Officers was held on January 11, 2015. We had a
great turn out with over fifty people on our sidelines. Thanks to Illustrious
Ray Godeke, 33°, Illustrious J. Lloyd Clayton, 33° and Honorable Dave
Kussman, 32° KCCH and all of the other support officers for their partici-
pation in the Installation; a job well done.
Our Knights of St. Andrew were also out in force for the Installation with all of
their new regalia. The Knights took the opportunity during the Installation to distribute
their double headed eagle awards for the year. Thanks to First Knight James McCallion,
32° for his efforts in support of our Knights.
Our next Stated Meeting will be held on February 2nd which will be our Ladies’ Ap-
preciation Night. Each of the ladies in attendance will receive a rose to recognize their
support and participation on our behalf. Please be sure to bring your lady so that she may
receive a rose.
Just a reminder, if any of you would like to order a new Valley of Orange County
name badge, please let Ill. Bob know and he will order one for you. The cost is $10.00.
REMEMBER, MY BROTHERS, GET INVOLVED, YOU DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!

Scottish Rite News
Brethren,
The time has come to say that it is that time of the month again. It is time to
check your wallets and see if you have a 2015 sticker on your dues card. Remember
that your dues for 2015 were due at the end of December. If you don’t have a 2015
sticker please send your dues payment in or if you have questions, please call the of-
fice. Difficult financial situations can periodically affect everyone, so let us know if we
can help. Our Almoner is always available to assist our Brothers if necessary.
There are still 31 members that have yet to pay their 2014 dues. The Supreme Council statutes re-
quire us to suspend these members for non-payment if two years dues are unpaid. Our Personal Repre-
sentative has extended this deadline to the end of February to give our members some additional time.
Please do not allow all of your work slip away when our Almoner is available to help if needed. Please call
the office.
Our highly motivated Valley of Orange County is moving ahead on many fronts, we need you to
come and see what we are doing. We hope to see you at our next Stated Meeting.
Fraternally,
Bob McNamara, 33º

A new look
The center has a new look for 2015 and for this I
would like to thank our Director of Improvements and mem-
ber of the CA Scottish Rite Foundation Board of Directors,
Mr. David Price for arranging to make this happen for the
Center.
We also want to thank our Personal Representative,
Ill. Rick Wood, 33° for helping us secure the carpet and final-
ly our appreciation goes to our school volunteers who worked
extremely hard that day. Check out the results!
Toys for therapy
In December the Center had a need for specialized
toys to be used in the enhancement of vocabulary and pronun-
ciation during therapy in 2015. Well, the wait is over!
Our secret family who continues to donate and support our
center came to the rescue by donating most of the toys re-
quested. And who said Santa is not real!
2015 here we come
The Center looks forward to your continued support
throughout the new year, so we can achieve our mission in
helping our kids have a voice in this world.
Sincerely yours,
Frankie Rosario, 32°
President of the Board of Directors
Hello from the Orange County Childhood Language
Center. January brought excitement to the Language Center,
as we took the time to review our services in 2014, had new
carpet installed and received additional toys needed for the
treatment of our children.
I would like to once again thank YOU for the finan-
cial support received in 2014, and for making our center your
charitable priority as without you, none of this would have
been possible.
Our thanks to:
The California Scottish Rite Foundation for their
commitment and continuous promotion of our work, the Or-
ange County Scottish Rite Valley, for making their mission to
invest in our Center, both financially and in time, and to our
Chapman University team for improving the number of spe-
cialized services we provide and making our Center the very
best Language Center in Orange County.
Our gratitude goes also to the Board of Directors,
who continues to work hard at overseeing fund raising events
and expenses. Because of all of the above, our Center has
moved to be one of the top three highest-ranking centers
overseen by the CA Scottish Rite Foundation in the state of
California and that my friends is no small achievement. Con-
gratulations to the team for a job well done!
Let’s get into the details
In 2014 we broke new records by:
Providing 264 hours of evaluations to 122 children
Treating an average of 54 clients per month, with our
highest in November, with 87 children treated
Providing an average of 126 hours per month of individ-
ual therapy sessions, with the highest in October, with
234 hours of therapy
Providing an average of 132 hours per month of individ-
ual and group therapy hours combined, with our highest
in October, with 241 hours
And here comes the best part! All this was achieved without
compromising our services, and by maintaining an average of
less than $35 per therapy hour! Yes, your donations are being
managed responsibly and are working hard for the benefit of
our children.

I want to thank you for your support in electing me as your Venerable Master for the 2015 Scot-
tish Rite year. I am really looking forward to this coming year. Hon. David Kussman has started put-
ting things in place for the upcoming officers to follow through along with many new programs. I hope
everyone took the time to review the calendar for 2015.
I would like to give a big thank you to Hon. David Kussman who served as our Venerable Mas-
ter this past year. Dave has been a good mentor for me, along with our Personal Rep. Ill. Rick Wood,
33° and Asst. Personal Rep. Ill. Bob McNamara.
I want to thank everyone who participated in the Installation of the 2015 corps of Officers. A
special thanks to Ill. Rick Wood for all he does at our Valley and with the Installation along with Ill.
Ray Godeke, the Installing Officer, Ill. J. Lloyd Clayton, the Master of Ceremonies, Hon. David J.
Kussman as Chaplain and Ill. Robert W. McNamara along with his staff for putting the Installation Program together.
Even though membership doesn’t fall under my chair this year, this doesn’t mean I won’t be talking about member-
ship. Remember, it is everyone’s responsibility for membership, every member in our Valley is on the membership committee.
As I said in my previous articles, we had a goal of 25 new members for our valley and we made that goal. Our goal for 2015
will be 30 new members; I know we can do this.
Just a reminder, retention is also part of membership, so if you know someone who is thinking about dropping their
membership to our Valley, please talk to them and find out what we can do as a Valley to keep them as a member.
Remember my brothers, Feb. 2, 2015 is our Stated Meeting and we will be honoring our Ladies especially with Valen-
tine’s Day on February 14. So why not bring your lady where we will recognize them after our stated meeting.
On March 2, 2015 stated meeting will be our annual Shrine Night POV. Al Malaikah and El Bekal Shrines will be our
guests. El Bekal will be furnishing the entertainment for the night after dinner. I was told that the Steel Band will be enter-
taining us. All shrine members please bring both your Scottish Rite Cap and your Fez. Your fez can be worn after stated
meeting or if you are a Scottish-Rite Mason and a Shriner then you can wear it during the stated meeting.
I want to thank all the side liners who have been attending our stated meetings; we have been averaging 42 members,
thanks Brethren.
Remember my brothers “Change is for the good, but no change is fatal”

Brethren, I am honored to have been elected to serve as your Wise Master. For
those who were not able to attend the Installation, you missed a wonderful event, we
had a packed house!
These are very exciting times, watching our Valley grow and discovering the
talented Brethren who have joined our ranks! Together we make a difference. I
would like to challenge the members to get involved any way you feel fit! We have
parts to be filled on our Ritual Teams and the Knights of St Andrew always have
openings any of which will allow you a way to get involved and serve our Valley!
Please look for opportunities to get involved!

Speculating Masonic Symbolism… THE LENGTH OF A CABLE TOW
The length of one’s Cable Tow is frequently referred to in the language of Freema-
sonry. In nautical terms it is considered to be 720ft. In eighteenth century writings, a
Mason’s Cable Tow was deemed to be the distance one could travel in an hour, which
was assumed to be about three miles.
Each Mason is bound to all other Masons by a tie as long and as strong as he him-
self determines his ability will reasonably permit. Today with the advent of instant
electronic communication, the length, in terms of distance, is often eliminated; one Brother may be able to
respond to the needs of another around the World in a matter of minutes. The Cable Tow is also often re-
ferred to as the symbol of the tie that binds us as Brothers. The obligation binds us as Brothers while the
Cable Tow is the symbol of that fraternal bond .

All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
Masonic labor is purely a labor of love. He who seeks to draw Masonic wages in gold
and silver will be disappointed. The wages of a Mason are earned in their dealing with one
another, sympathy that begets sympathy, kindness begets kindness, helpfulness begets helpful-
ness and these are the wages of a Mason.
Worshipful Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
The secret of Masonry, like the secret of life, can be known only by those who seek it,
serve it, and live it. It cannot be uttered; it can only be felt and acted. It is, in fact, an open
secret, and each man knows it according to his quest and capacity. Like all things worth know-
ing, no one can know it for another and no man can know it alone.

One of Our Own
If you’re like me you read through the
various Masonic publications that come in the
mail as part of your memberships in various ap-
pendant bodies. You see and read about Brothers
from around the country and the world and won-
der who they are and where they come from. Well
this month in the Supreme Council’s Scottish Rite
Journal, you will find a familiar face that belongs
to none other than our own Brother James Cer-
vantes, 32° the Director of Ritual. He is one of
the featured guests on a podcast for Masons by
Masons sponsored by the Supreme Council of
Scottish Rite called: “The Tyler’s Place”.
For those of you who are computer, internet
or smart phone challenged a “podcast” is defined by
Merriam Webster as: a program (as of music or talk)
made available in digital format for automatic down-
load over the Internet. In short it is internet based
radio programing that has the ability to recall any
of the shows in their archive any time you have the
time to listen.
“The Tyler’s Place” was created and hosted
by Brother Maynard Edwards, 32° who started this
Masonic podcast to share Masonic stories and infor-
mation with the assistance of a variety of guests.
One of his guests just happens to be Brother Cer-
vantes who shared news and information of the
amazing happenings here at Orange County Scottish
Rite. You can find this podcast through either
iTunes or Stitcher for Android users.
Brother Cervantes was contacted for this
program as a result of contact he made at the spe-
cial training that he and his brother-in-law Broth-
er James McCallion participated in last summer in
Washington D.C. This training was a unique op-
portunity for our two Brothers to learn and bring
back to Orange County the latest and greatest
information and programs that the Supreme
Council has.
So if you haven’t already done so, I urge you
to find your Jan-Feb 2015 Issue of the Scottish Rite
Journal and read the article titled “The Tyler’s
Place, We saved a seat for you” By Brother
Maynard Edwards, 32°. Oh and keep a look out for
an article written by Brother Cervantes in a future
issue of the Scottish Rite Journal.

ALMOST TIME TO SEE 29 DEGREES IN GUTHRIE OKLAHOMA
Once a year, the Valley of Guthrie in the Orient of Oklahoma, exempli-
fies all 29 of the Scottish Rite degrees. This year it will begin on Friday, April
10th at 7:00am and conclude on Sunday, April
12th at noon. The settings are beautiful and the
days are somewhat long but well worth the ef-
fort. There are inexpensive dorm rooms availa-
ble in the building as well as a restaurant so
accommodations are very convenient.
Travel to Guthrie is best via an airline to Oklahoma City, renting
a car, and a short drive on to Guthrie. A number of Orange County
Scottish Rite Brothers have
made the trip in the past and
others are already showing interest so we anticipate renting
transportation in Oklahoma City together to reduce the cost.
Please contact the office if you are interested in attending so
we can assist you coordinating your planned attendance.
