Oral Presentation Workshop
•You must send a copy of your PowerPoint presentation to [email protected] by 5:00pm Wednesday. •You should arrive at your speaking place by 8:30am Thursday morning.•You should bring your poster with you to your speaking place. It will be displayed outside of your speaking place.
Where do you go?•Biology/Medical - Medical (Building #490) in the Large Conference Room.•Physics – Biology (Building #463) in the Biology Seminar Room.•Chemistry – Chemistry (Building #555) in the Hamilton Seminar Room.•Env/Eng/Other – Berkner Hall (Building 488) in the Main Auditorium.
You must be there by 8:30am on Thursday morning!!!
The Presentation
• 12 minutes duration (10 minute presentation, 2 minutes Q & A)
• There will be a facilitator to load your presentation.
• Remember the purpose of your presentation is to communicate the important points of your research to other scientist.

•Avoid mumbling, monotone speaking and obscure terminology.•Be engaging, show personality and maintain eye contact.•You are a speaker not a reader!
The Presentation- PowerPoint
• “A picture is worth a thousand words, a graph is worth a thousand numbers.”
• Demonstrations, models, short videos are all allowed.
• “Less is more” use as few PowerPoint slides as possible.
The Structure-What to do
•Clearly introduce yourself•Tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you just told them.•Give a little background on your subject. Describe how your research fit into the big picture.•Give your results and conclusions•What went wrong, problems….•What’s next.
