New Features

Release 4.4.1 features

The following features are available with the standard release 4.4.1

You can now access the NCC UI for all NCC applications by using Java Webstart. All NCC applications support Java SE 6, 1.6.0_29 / 6u29 or later versions for both Web browsers and Java Webstart.

You may use any browser supporting the required Java version, such as IE 8 or higher. NCC supports client systems that use Windows XP or higher.

The new Social Networking Service Template (SNST) replaces the existing NCC Social Relationship Management (SRM) service. The SNST is a preconfigured service that you install using the NCC Installation Manager. You can install SNST on an existing NCC system or on a newly installed NCC system.

The SNST helps operators reduce subscriber turnover by providing subscriber benefits such as preferential tariffs or discounts when subscribers call each other after establishing relationships.

Subscribers establish relationships by first registering for the SNST service and then inviting other subscribers to become ‘friends’. After a friend link has been established, whenever the subscriber calls a friend the subscriber will receive the applicable SNST discount.

Friends can be on-net (within the same operator's network) or off-net (in different operator's networks). On-net subscribers can be in a registered, unregistered or deactivated state.

For more information, see the Social Networking Service Template User's & Technical Guide.

The new Software Developer's Kit (SDK) enables third parties to develop their own custom features for the NCC product. The SDK includes capabilities for developing the following custom features:

Service loader.

Extensions for existing NCC service loaders.

Feature nodes for retrieving information from a specific database table to meet your business requirements, or for controlling your charging session between the network and the billing engine.

Database tables on the SMS node that can be replicated to the SLC node.

Provisioning Interface (PI) commands that can store provisioning information in custom database tables.

MFiles that can be used by custom SLC components, such as a custom service loader or a custom feature node.

Components that use the NCC common method for raising alarms, errors, generating statistics, and generating debug output.

Control agent.

For more information, see SDK Developer's Technical Guide.

Release 4.4.1.1 features

The following features are only available after upgrading the 4.4.1 release with the 4.4.1.1 patchset.

The BRM Charging Driver (BCD) integrates NCC and BRM using the native API of the BRM product (PCM) in order to provide a scalable, performance optimized interface for all operations that require real-time access to BRM, including:

Session and event based charging for all services, including voice, data, messaging and content delivery.

Access to account and balance information through NCC managed self-care channels.

Voucher recharge, including support for NCC and BRM provided vouchers.

Key features of the interface include:

Productized integration, using the well understood native BRM API (PCM).

Extensible through configurable profile tag mappings.

Robust, scalable interface.

Tunable connection parameters.

Comprehensive throughput and latency measurement statistics.

Pre-defined diagnostics reports.

Logging & tracing information, switchable at run-time.

The Diameter Control Agent 3GPP enhancements expands the Diameter Attribute Value Pair (AVP) mapping capabilities, allowing:

For a greater range of fields within certain INAP operations.

AVPs from a CCR to be mapped onto ACS profile fields.

ACS profile fields to be mapped onto AVPs for any CCA response.

Support for mapping data from complex AVP hierarchies to profile fields.

Support for ACS profiles of type ARRAY.

Provides support for call screening without the need for starting billing session.

Improved support for services where Diameter Credit Control is not applicable.

Mobile Network Operator Compatibility enhancements provides greater consideration for Mobile Network operators (MNO) who provide their own variations on 3GPP and IETF Diameter standards for Credit Control, allowing:

Service triggering.

Extensions to standards based enumerated values.

Default units may be assumed by operators, but be specified explicitly later in the call flows.

Ability to track elapsed-time at the interface and report back to the client.

Allow result-codes set by the interface to be mapped.

Support the use of non-standard capabilities negotiation.

For more information, see DCA Technical Guide.

Known Problems

The following table lists known problems in this release, and their workarounds, if any.

Service Request (SR) Number

BugDB Number

Component Resolution

13035183 SMS A metadata extraction error may occur in the resyncServer on the SMS when performing a full resynchronization of replication data between the SMS, and the SLC and VWS nodes. This can be caused when you create a replication configuration file during a system upgrade at an incorrect point in the procedure. This may result in the smsCompareResyncClient process hanging on the SLC and VWS nodes.

If this problem occurs, restart the smsCompareResynClient process on the SLC and VWS nodes that have hung.

12990924 DAP The DAP WSDL Import screens in the DAP UI display files imported in the Document style in a different way from files imported in the RPC style. The Document style causes the operation or response element to be repeated in the display with extraneous tick boxes.

These additional fields can be ignored as they do not affect the saved WSDL content or resulting functionality.

This issue has been resolved in NCC 4.4.1.1 software release.

13029217 CCS It is sometimes not possible to save edits to an existing table EDR Element in the EDR Management screens in the CCS UI.

To work around this problem, you should:

Make the required changes to the EDR Element.

Modify the Field Type value and select a

non-table entry (such as CDR Text

Field).

Enter a value (not Null) in the EDR Tag field.

Change the Field Type value back to its original value.

Save the record.

For information on configuring the EDRs, see the EDR Management chapter in CCS User's Guide.

13034145 SLEE When shutting down the SLEE on the SLC, a core file produced by slee_acs may appear. A GNU Debugger (gdb) back trace report of the core dump will result in a corrupt stack.

There is no workaround for this problem. The core file should be removed.

13349920 ACS In the Control Plan Editor in the ACS UI, it is not always possible to set the Location Data Type field to

anything other than 'None Selected' for the

following feature nodes:

Attempt Terminate to Pending TN

Attempt Terminate to Pending TN with Duration

Terminate to Pending TN

To work around this problem, you should select a new Location Location value in the feature node. Then the Location Data Type field will become active and you will be able to edit its value.

For information on configuring the Location Data Type for a feature node, see ACS Feature Nodes User's Guide.

13367424 CCS A permissions problem may cause BPLs to disappear from the Edit Subscriber screen in the CCS UI.

To work around this problem, you should apply Patch 13375962 after installing NCC 4.4.1.

This issue has been resolved in NCC 4.4.1.1 software release.
