Opto-Electric Guitar Pickup
Multidisciplinary Senior Design IRIT
Spring/Fall 13323
Project Background
• Replace traditional electromagnetic-based pick ups with photo-electronic one
• Create aftermarket photo-electronic pickup for acoustic guitar
• Objectives:– Detection of fundamental tones– Ability to switch between digital and analog processing
paths– Maintain original structure and functionality of the
guitar
Outline – Detailed Design Review
• Team Members• Waveform Measurements• Updated Block Diagram• Schematics • Mechanical Drawings• Updated Risk Assessment• Bill Of Materials• Test Plan & MSD II Schedule
Team Members
• Rachel Arquette (Project Manager) (EE)• Caroline Lichtenberger (Lead Engineer) (EE)• Joe Mauger (EE)• Christopher Perry (EE)• Christopher Steele (ME)• Paul Hoops (EE)• Ye Kuang (EE)
Waveform Measurements•See Attachment #1•Sensor Output includes baseband content•Microphone Reading shows broader spikes (See especially the second spike below)

Schedule of MSD II
• Suggested Timeline ->
Schedule of MSD II
• Adjusted Timeline ->
Test Plan – Iterative• Mechanical: Finalize a functional adjustable harness
system for processors and sensors• Analog: Simulate final values; document
experimental waveform outputs; compare to simulated and digital
• Digital: Document waveform outputs; compare to analog
• Misc. Electrical: Design and order PCB’s, assemble, employ guitarist to test both data paths through electric amplifier
