This option represents a greater level of intervention - essentially creating a new Station Square framed by development. Additional development is suggested within the adjoining land holdings creating walkable streets and an improved pedestrian experience.

Option C

Option Summary The new developments create a new mixed-use,

vibrant environment. Active uses on the ground floor of the new

building and existing ones will increase footfall and therefore create a more vibrant space. This will increase people’s dwell time.

Moving all the vehicular movements outside the Station creates a more pedestrian-friendly environment.

The new shared surface on Elder Gate will allow cyclists and pedestrians to proceed at grade towards the city centre, providing more intuitive wayfinding and improving the perception of safety.

Removal of surface parking areas creates a more people-centric environment.

Improved connectivity with Midsummer Boulevard. Developments in Station Square create less

flexible gathering spaces.

MILTON KEYNES STATION SQUARE

Integrate the bus stops along Elder Gate to create an improved interchange and remove buses from the Square

Consolidate other vehicular movements to the rear of the Station and create a secondary station entrance to declutter the Square

Develop Station Square to create a mixed-use environment and increase density

Establish a shared surface along Elder Gate and remove the underpasses to create a more direct and intuitive route from Station Square towards the city centre

Connect the new square to Midsummer Boulevard with tree planting and public realm

Develop the parking spaces behind Elder and Phoenix House to create a mixed-use environment and increase density
