OPTICAL TELEMETRY USING SCADA
Presented by: Mr. R H Vishwakarma Mr. J V Mehta Mr. A H Poladia
Overview• Introduction• Why Optical Telemetry System(OTS)?• How it works?• Component of telemetry• Advantages and drawbacks• Areas of applications• Future improvements
Introduction•What is Telemetry? Telemetry is the transmission of measured physical
quantity to a convenient remote location in the form suitable for display analysis.
•Why is it essential? Remote monitoring possible Safer in hazardous environments

Introduction
•What is SCADA? SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition)
generally refers to industrial control systems (ICS): computer systems that monitor and control industrial, infrastructure, or facility-based processes
IntroductionSCADA Architecture
How it works?
Advantages & Disadvantages•Advantages:
Extremely high bandwidthEarly detection of cable damage and secure
transmissionsSmall size and weightLow transmission loss
•Disadvantages: Installation costs, while dropping, are still highSpecial test equipment is often requiredWildlife damage to fiber optic cables
Applications•Industrial Parameter Monitoring •Bio-Medical Applications•Energy monitoring•Flight testing•Water management
Applications•Industrial Parameter Monitoring
Applications•Bio-Medical Applications
Blood Pressure
Pulse Rate
Respiratory Rate
Heart rate
Applications•Energy monitoring
Applications•Flight Testing
Future Improvements
• The project designed here is a Human-Machine-Interface(HMI). This can be converted into a totally automatic system by doing some modifications in the existing system.
• By increasing the number of sensors, more parameters can be measured as well.
• The optical fiber system can be converted to a wireless system.
