As bandwidth increases and critical customer applications are transported on optical networks, the need for real-time monitoring and reporting is a must.
Fiber optical monitoring and fault response procedures run the gamut. Some solutions are completely manual, requiring groups of engineers and operational teams to scan and calculate exact fault locations. Others rely solely on handheld OTDR devices to identify and locate faults by tediously examining one fiber at a time.
