Message from Mrs Wakefield

Thank you for all the kind donations for morning tea. It was much appreciated. We had hardly anything left and during our extended morning tea there were three very long lines for both tea/coffee and something tasty to eat. The raffle gave three families prizes with first place winning a trailer load of wood and second and third place winning a $50 fuel voucher each. We sold out of veges from our school garden and sold our school recipe book! The assembly was lovely and dedicated to our visiting grandparents with 5/6B and 5/6T delivering some funny lost and found grandparent moments. Windstars encouraged audience participation, songs from Kindergarten and 1/2C and 1/2G, a percussion item from 1/2S, an ‘out of this world’ performance from Stage 2, two songs from 5/6C and 5/6M and a magnificent performance from our award-winning choir. So many thanks go to my staff for all their efforts and support and the biggest thank you goes to the P&C who set up, were at school well before our day started, sold morning tea, veges, recipe books, arranged the raffle and so much more. Our school is blessed with so many wonderful people who work together for one purpose – ‘Our Students’. Thank you for a truly marvelous day! Yours in Education - Leanne Wakefield, Principal

WOW! Is a word that I am using to describe our day yesterday. An amazing day! Thank you so very much for visiting our great school. What a fabulous day we had for Grandparents’ Day. I received so many positive comments about our open classrooms and the work being done by our staff and students. The Book Fair is always popular with our grandparents and visitors and I could see so many students being spoilt with quality books, which is just wonderful. Our playground improvements had many nods of approval, the morning tea was huge and the whole school assembly was a showstopper. On a quick count, we had well over 350 visitors. It was so lovely to see so many people share our day. Thank you for visiting GPS!

year. This allows you to be part of a fun team to put together a wonderful event for our Year 6 students and to sit back next year and enjoy the experience of your own child as they participate in this special and memorable event. We are seeking mums, dads, carers and other special representatives from families to be part of the planning, design and operation of this year’s ‘Farewell to Year 6’. We need a great team to share the load and be part of the fun! Job criteria: Great sense of humour, hardworking, creative, good on a ladder, good in the kitchen, good on the computer, good leading others, good being told what to do, or good for nothing. If you fit all, some or none of these criteria…. you are exactly what we need! Please join us for our first meeting at 3.05pm on Tuesday 3 September (Week 7) in the 5/6B classroom near the hall. If you cannot make it on the day but could possibly contribute to the team, please leave a message at the office or send in a quick note with your child to let us know. If your child does not participate in Sporting Schools, consider joining them for the day or we will have the room adjoining for them to do some quiet activities. Remember, your child’s farewell next year relies on the good will of next year’s Year 5 parents. Here is your chance to ‘pay it forward’. We look forward to a room full of happy helpers!

Stage 3 Excursion to Bathurst

Stage 3 students, along with Mrs Bosworth, Miss Goodwin, Mrs Willis, Mr Maggs and Mrs Walker, departed Gloucester this morning at 6.00am for their long journey south to Bathurst and Hill End. Students will learn about the early explorers of this region and how these explorers attempted to cross the Blue Mountains. Tomorrow they will have a tour of the town of Hill End, visit History Hill, explore underground mines, stamper batteries and relics of the gold rush era. Students will have some time to pan for gold in an effort to support their parents in their early retirement! They will then travel to Bathurst, enjoy a quick highlight tour of the town, including the famous Mount Panorama race track. After a big day toiling on the goldfields they will have some time to consider what to do with their fortunes with dinner to follow and a bit of fun around the campfire. On Thursday it will be off to Katoomba visiting the Three Sisters and Echo Point. Also included is a stop at Scenic World to take a ride into the valley, experiencing the picturesque Blue Mountains up close. After lunch it will be time to head home. They are expected to arrive back at Gloucester between 6.30pm and 7.00pm.
